+1 for the manual transmission. I can't believe Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini are pushing autos off on everyone. Yeah they are faster but come on.

I can answer this one. When the ACR first set the record in 2009, using the 2008 model ACR, they did so in 3 laps. They knew it had more in it, but time and weather didn't allow it. When the 2010 Viper came out, it came with a revised (more aggressive) 5th gear ratio and revised aero designs on the ACR wing. These mods have proven at other tracks vs the 2008 model. But, the 2010 Viper was never run at the 'Ring to show it. They knew they would beat it again. Dodge didn't pay for this trip, a few Viper dealers got together and funded the trip. Just because they could.

yeah, who would have thought 20 years ago that there would be a day when Ferrari and Lamborghini sold cars that don't even have a manual as an option

Still, to sit here and tell me that a mothballed 2010 "100% stock" ACR Viper came out and ran a full 10 seconds faster than it's previous brethren (a 2008 ACR) is a bit fishy no matter how you look at it....

The only changes on the car were the gearing change that was made on the 2010 model and from what I understand, new tires. That somehow translates into a full 10 second faster time....

The ZR1 meanwhile went and got new tires, and some changes...and only improved it's time about 5 seconds. Roughly the same HP/torque/weight....same exact tires (as far as I can find out)....and yet we have no video proof of it actually happening.

If the Viper was given the same treatment the ZR1 was, I'd expect a faster time than the ZR1, and rightfully so. However, to make that big of a jump with only a minor gearing change and a new set of tires.....

Do we know who the drivers were on both Viper runs?
