@ CamaroSkooter Yea,just ask a gun smith how much it would cost to clean it,dont try and do it yourself. There is nothing worse than someone bring you a half dissembled gun and trying to fix it.Another word of advise,go light on the oil!! on a serious note my duty glock only get 1 tiny drop of oil on the trigger connector and maybe half a drop on the slide if its lucky.Oiling the $hit out a gun is the worst thing you can do to them.

...100% correct. Shipping in-state, there is no need for an FFL - just packaging requirements thru the carrier you choose to ship through. Out-of-state (as stated above) it depends on the FFL who you are shipping to as some will accept it from you and some will not. I have shipped firearms out-of-state via both methods. USPS; UPS and Fed Ex will all accept firearms under their own particular guidelines. Fex Ex has told me here in Alaska that they want it done thru an FFL both ways. UPS and USPS have both accepted firearms from me personally for delivery to the buyer's FFL in another state. |

I store mine mostly dry and shoot them somewhat wet. Good cleaning is a must after you shoot - everytime. It doesn't take long to do and it really helps prolong the life of your weapon.

Hell yeah it does! 5 small drops of oil is all that's needed on an AR. Anything else is OVERKILL. |

I put a nickel boron BCG in my ar and went ahead and put oil on it and put it in the safe. A couple days later I took it out. The oil ran off the BCG and was down on the buffer. Oil will simply not stay put on nickel boron. In fact, the BCG feels "oiled" even when dry. That stuff is slippery. It isn't a must have by any means, as the regular old mil spec BCG has been doing its job since the 60s.

If you want to take the risk of not transferring a firearm not through an FFL go right ahead even in your state ,I think 20$ or so is well worth it not being on you if it ends up in the wrong hands.

ATF Rules:
. UNLICENSED PERSONS (B1) To whom may an unlicensed person transfer firearms under the GCA? [Back] A person may sell a firearm to an unlicensed resident of his State, if he does not know or have reasonable cause to believe the person is prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms under Federal law. A person may loan or rent a firearm to a resident of any State for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes, if he does not know or have reasonable cause to believe the person is prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms under Federal law. A person may sell or transfer a firearm to a licensee in any State. However, a firearm other than a curio or relic may not be transferred interstate to a licensed collector. [18 U.S.C. 922(a)(3) and (5), 922(d), 27 CFR 478.29 and 478.30] (B2) From whom may an unlicensed person acquire a firearm under the GCA? [Back] A person may only acquire a firearm within the person’s own State, except that he or she may purchase or otherwise acquire a rifle or shotgun, in person, at a licensee's premises in any State, provided the sale complies with State laws applicable in the State of sale and the State where the purchaser resides. A person may borrow or rent a firearm in any State for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes. [18 U.S.C. 922(a)(3) and (5), 922(b)(3), 27 CFR 478.29 and 478.30] (B3) May an unlicensed person obtain a firearm from an out-of-State source if the person arranges to obtain the firearm through a licensed dealer in the purchaser’s own State? [Back] A person not licensed under the GCA and not prohibited from acquiring firearms may purchase a firearm from an out-of-State source and obtain the firearm if an arrangement is made with a licensed dealer in the purchaser's State of residence for the purchaser to obtain the firearm from the dealer. ATF Shipping rules: 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(32), 922(g)(8) and 925(a)(1)] (B7) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm through the U.S. Postal Service?[Back] A nonlicensee may not transfer a firearm to a non-licensed resident of another State. A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. The Postal Service recommends that long guns be sent by registered mail and that no marking of any kind which would indicate the nature of the contents be placed on the outside of any parcel containing firearms. Handguns are not mailable. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. [18 U.S.C. 1715, 922(a)(3), 922(a)(5) and 922 (a)(2)(A)] (B8) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by common or contract carrier? [Back] A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm. Based on the wording, the ATF does not place any burden on the seller unless they specifically know the person they are selling the gun to is prohibited from owning/possessing the firearm. I agree that $20 is cheap insurance but it isn't necessary, it is only for your peace of mind. |

Im seriously jealous of you guys with automatics... I've only ever shot them at the range for semi-annual weapons qualifications (M-16 and MK43). I own a 12 ga pump, and a semi-auto ak-47, lol...
How does one go about getting a license for automatic weapons? |

You need to follow the NFA class 3 license provisions. You will need to 1. Make sure it is legal to own a FA weapon in your state and check local laws. If so - 2. find the FA weapon you want to buy 3. arrange for the purchase of the weapon with the owner and the details of how payment will be made and obtain SN and make model of the weapon. 4. Find a Class 3 FFL dealer in your area to do the transfer (most of them can help you with the paperwork too) 5. fill out the ATF paperwork completely (involves finger printing) and have someone meeting the criteria for the paperwork sign off on you (Chief of police; Judges, ...depends on the state sometimes); 6. Send the completed paperwork with a $200 payment to ATF for the processing of the paperwork and a back ground investigation; 7. Once ATF approves you, they will send you a license for that one firearm you are purchasing. 8. After payment arrangements are satisfied, the seller (who may be a class 3 FFL dealer himself) transfers the weapon to your Class 3 FFL dealer in your state (you pay him a small fee for the transfer) 9. Take possession of the weapon and always keep your license with it - always. 10. shoot it to your hearts desire and discover how expensive a hobby it can be sometimes.

You sir, are very helpful... And having a FA weapon would really just be for occasional kicks... I know how fast a weapon can burn through a 30 round mag... Thats not exactly 10 bucks well spent, lol. |

Honestly, I prefer using SA on the weapons I use anyway. Even when we fire the MK 43 i still burst fire with it(mainly because you cant see shit with all the smoke). I prefer short to medium ranged precision shots with a rifle. |
