First of all I know street racing is not talked about here, so let's not take it there this is an article about cars that got impounded for street racing in Canada. What's interesting is the cars were all very high end, and the owners very young. The article states the owner's were in their 20's, with a registered owner of a Lamborghini who was only 18.

The article:

I know right? I'd expect at least a Camaro, if not a Z06 or ZR1 in there. Probably cause they'd all get beat

I'm amazed that the article says that the cars may be seized permanently. No way that happens in the USA. The report says that the officers pulled them over after receiving complaints of them speeding. Ummmm... So if i call the police and say you were speeding then you can impound the car? I don't think so. Where is the proof? How did they judge the speed, do people in BC ride around with their own radar guns? Ridiculous.

I'm not approving street racing, but I don't approve of government run amok, either.

I agree with you on that, but I think that was an exaggeration. It also says they're impounded for 7 days somewhere else in the article, so that was the writers error. Also, these people are probably have connected parents, so the cars might not even stay a full 7 days

well, we dont know how fast they were going. if they were doing 150+ on the highway, would you want to give them their car back after 7 days?

At the end of the news video the kid with the R8 sets the record straight by telling the police that it was his buddies who going "well in excess of 200kph (120mph)". Apparently he was just trying to keep up. The fact that they were not charged with dangers driving, a criminal offense under the criminal code and only charged with street racing under the motor vehicle act says they might not have enough evidence. However, I'm thinking that a week with these car would be more than enough time to access the black box and find out just how fast they were going.

A better question that maybe should be asked is what parent buys their kids cars like these when the have been driving for 2 years or less?
