First ticket.

I got a phone call today that my father went into the hospital, so as I left where I was to go over to the hospital you could say I was speeding a bit I was on a dark back road and hit the gas a little bit and then my radar detector went off (just bought it today thinking it would save me from tickets) I got on the breaks but it was too late his lights were already on. I tried to explain to him why I was speeding but he didn't want to hear any of it. He gave me a ticket for 49 in a 25 and I don't think it helped that I am young. But does anyone have any advice on how to try and get the ticket knocked down.

Almost double the seed limit isnt speeding a bit its a lot,Don't know if you will get it knocked down but you might be able to take a driving course and keep it off you record.

i would get a lawyer because you might lose your license or your ticket will be over 300 bucks. i got a ticket in Cali going 103 on a 70 and it was 325 buck. i got off easy. the cop only put that i was going 90+ on the ticket. (one nice cop)

I have double the speed limit on my record. It says it's excessive speeding or something and it doesn't even say how fast I was going on my record... ticket was only $15! but I'll be paying for it through insurance for years...

49 in a 25 at night, sounds as though you are not able to make wise choices. Sorry to hear about your dad but that does not give you the privilege of driving as you please.

You are lucky that he did not tow your car and take you to jail for wreck-less driving.

Just for the record I wasn't driving around the town at a constant 24 mph over the speed limit I just sped through first and second gear and then as I went to slow down that is when he nailed me.

My last ticket was when I was "younger," and the experience was part of the learning process. Made it a point never to get caught again, but never is a long time, lol!! Well, today 28 years later I'm well on my way to never. But almost all of the time I stay within 5 miles of the posted limit. Most people can't or won't do that, so be it. Just sayin'. It's the insurance surcharges that cost hundreds of dollars that are really expensive, the ticket not so much usually.

I got a similar ticket (shit happens!) in Md, decided to plead guilty with explanation in hopes of penalty reduction, but I never had to spin my bs story in court- officer didnt show up and case was dismissed.

I still cant believe it- I was pleading guilty.

Hey OP......Believe it or not.....This is a very common excuse given when someone is stopped for speeding. If you have a decent driving history this is what I recommend. If your Dad was really in the hospital than you will have release paperwork from the hospital. I would take that to court and prove that your reason was legitimate. If you do that, then I would hope that the Judge / Officer would dismiss the violation. But before anyone says it....yes I know there are "pricks" out there but hopefully you did not get stopped by one. I myself would dismiss the violation immediatly if the proof was given that you Dad was actually in the hospital.
