power plant of the future?
So, I was in the DC metro area yesterday, and noticed the Nissan Leaf traveling exhibit at the Westfield Mall. They had about 15 cars and would let you drive one. It drove quite nice, but I told the Nissan crew that the stock version was a bit quiet, and asked if CAI, and a Borla or Corsa would open it up a bit more.

Electricity cost of 3 cents/mile. Pretty cheap in comparison to gas costs in my SS which is at 27 cents/mile with 93 at $4.09.
Luckily, I don't use my Camaro for commuting! Also, in the DC metro area over the past 4 days, I haven't see a single Camaro! |

Too bad once the battery dies you're stranded and it takes 13 hours to charge. Way of the future.

If and when infrastructure catches up, you'll see charging stations everywhere... the key is to invest wisely in the supporting hardware and potential locations. I envision charging stations becoming as common as WiFi hotspots.

It's interesting to see the list of companies that are planning to install quick charging stations: Walgreens drug stores and Cracker Barrel restaurants. 30 minute charge while you have a meal, and you are on your way again.

Sure, but it still takes ages to charge. Whereas it takes only a few minutes to fill up with gasoline or it should take about the same to fill up with hydrogen. Electric cars are a stupid waste of money, as are hybrids. Hydrogen is the best solution. They just need to find a cost effective way of stripping it from water.

![]() Range and plugging your car into a wall and waiting for a long period of time is the biggest issues with electric cars. If that ever get's solved they could be useful but Hydrogen seems to be like a much more viable way of transitioning away from gasoline.

Actually these electric and hybrid cars are so quiet that I think the govt. is going to mandate that they have a speaker that plays "engine" noise so pedestrians can hear them coming. *Cue joke about jetson's sounds*
But, I bet there's going to be a market for hacking the sounds to be whatever you want. No reason you couldn't just load up a borla clip!

I don't think I'd probably purchase one, but I could see the potential - especially in an area like mine - of investing in a few charging stations. Work with various locations like Redbox does.
A guy could probably make some money. I wouldn't do it personally, I'm entirely too lazy to go through the process of making that happen, but someone who's a bit more enterprising than I am could.
