R&T: FRPP 400hp Mustang GT tested!

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=7635

Quote:
Here's why: The engineers at Ford Racing know that tweaking your Mustang is a God-given right, so they've updated their catalog of performance parts specifically for the new 2010 pony car, many of which were fitted to our blue steed and are geared not only toward making the car go faster, but also to change directions more willingly and not lose its brake pedal after only a few hot laps on a road course.

These modifications include a Whipple supercharger, a screw-type blower (without an intercooler) whose 5 psi of boost helps the otherwise stock 4.6-liter V-8 produce 400 bhp at 6100 rpm and 400 lb.-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm. Those are good gains over stock, with no sacrifice in everyday driveability and only a hint of high-rpm blower whine cutting through the bellowing roar of the Ford Racing X-pipe exhaust with low-restriction mufflers. The gearbox is the stock 5-speed manual but with significantly shorter throws, thanks to a Hurst shift kit with a billet shift lever capped by a black cue-ball knob. Power is sent rearward to a 3.73:1 limited-slip rear end, and if you can limit wheelspin (tough to do with the traction control off) you'll be treated to a trip to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and a quarter-mile blast in 13.4 at 108.2 mph. That's four-tenths quicker than a GT in both tests.
Is it just me or does this 400hp Mustang seem slow compared to the Camaro?

But traction doesn't affect MPH. The Camaro traps 111mph whereas this car trapped 108 mph. The Camaro is faster.

I must admit I am a little surprised.
3.73 gears
0-60 4.9sec
.95gs!! of lateral acceleration
60-0 in only 108ft.
3572lb curb weight

Though to get this type of performance out of the mustang, the price gap is virtually non-existant comparing the camaro. What do you guys think??
the drivers in the review posted are comparable to edmunds as they had crap numbers for the camaro as well.

But driving skill doesn't affect MPH. The car trapped 108 mph whereas the Camaro traps 111mph. The Camaro is the more powerful car.

Thus, even with a $5k FRPP S/C and the $1200 track pack, a Mustang GT will still be slower than a stock Camaro SS.

i know the camaro is a more powerfull car, when did i say it was slower than this gt? i simply said u can do much more with 400hp with these drivers obviously cant, stock 300hp mustangs run 13.5 this is 100hp more than that and they ran 13.4? lol calm down with the automatic defensive... im just informing.

you would have to be blind if you think they they took a 400hp and ran stock 300hp gt numbers lol does that not raise an alarm in your mind? crappy drivers.

Point is: the stock Camaro SS traps 111mph which is faster than the FRPP supercharged Mustang GT - thus, after you drop $7000 in modifications on the Mustang, the stock Camaro will still be capable of going faster.

what would they do if GM puts a super charger on the Camaro. they shouldnt find cheap ways of making the car faster they should have been working on a better engine before they released the 2010 mustang.

thats your point... based off crappy drivers in the mustang.

jizm's point is that with a better driver and a better road, those numbers should improve.

so settle down eddie.
