ah, fun. More personal attacks.

Like many auto enthusiasts. I come to this site to learn and discuss technical autmotive information. It is dissappointing and frusturating to constantly see threads getting derailed, or having to filter through irrelevant posts when some good discussions.

maybe I should have specified this in the tech section? If you want to have random discussions and joke around for laughs in non-tech areas, I have no issues with that, and it is not my complaint.

You know what? (And I don't think I'm going out on a limb by assuming I'm one of the ones who have annoyed you)

Some of these guys have contributed HEAVILY to this forum. If a post count is that intimidating to you then so be it. Kinda weird.

Use the 'One word guy' as an example. Well, if it's that hard to look over 'One word' then you must be doing it wrong.

So some of these guys have MUCH more contributions than you do, just have a high BS type post count also. What's the problem. DIY vids. Helpful threads, discussions on various topics, informative stuff that not all but MANY have found helpful. Does the need for you to control post count justify the loss of that helpful info?

Not really sure how you have annoyed me, I don't really recall any interaction with you?

A lot of you are taking this posting count disabling very personally and with a lot of sensitivity. I didn't realize a big number next to your name meant so much. Post count does not "intimidate" me, and I think it is a bit weird that you feel it does.

You are completely missing this point of this thread. Useful information is useful information. It doesn't matter how it is presented nor who presents it or why. There is no reward, there is no ranking. It is just people talking to people about issues.

So what you are saying is that you think people will post less because it is disabled? People with knowledge won't share it? I'm not saying limit people how many posts they can make, I'm just saying don't track it with a number. I'm not doubting people have more contributions than me here. I have several memberships to actual tech sites where I have contributed for several years. Am I touting that over anyone here? no. So your comment is irrelevant.

Again, not sure why there is all the anger, hate, and disrespect for me making a suggestion. Isn't that what this entire site is supposed to be against? By you justifying that post count is relevant, you are basically saying that there is some heirarchy around here.

Seriously, post counts are fun, but there is NO heirarchy here. You started this thread by attacking one of our buddies. THAT'S what set a lot of us off.
Leave that out and clarify exactly what you meant, and this never would have happened. It's that simple.

I better reply to this thread. WheelmanSS is gaining on me!

Seriously though, is it really a big deal to scroll through posts. Do you really think getting rid of the post counter will stop topics from getting de-railed?

We have gone round and round regarding post count discussion. We have had many discussions...do we delete the PW threads...reset them...remove post count for off topic sections...etc etc etc.

Long story short, nothing is going to change with regards to post count. There is nothing really wrong with it or with someone making a 3 word response.

While I do understand what you are saying...surfing through a myriad of posts trying to find useful info, whether or not post count is there, you are still going to find the same type of replies. Removing post count won't stop it. It might curb one or two people. But, with 45,000 people, it won't put a dent in these one/two word replies.

And if I may,

Since someone has been named, I will say this...

05-10-2009

That's his join date.

For over two years he's been here.

0

That's his infraction count.

He does nothing wrong. He just posts a quick reply after he reads...not a bad guy at all. Believe me, I was going to ban him once he passed my post count. ...make him start all over ... (that's a joke...)...

Just try to skim over those one/two word replies and find the info you are looking for.

Who knows. Maybe one day we will go to that method of "user reputation" or something. When we discussed it, we basically mentioned the fact that we didn't want members going to and asking advice from someone who has a high post count simply because they have a high post count. A high post count does not necessarily mean they know the answer...and we don't want people with high posts counts to have that image. But, what are we to do?

Some food for thought, folks....

Post count has NO value or importance until YOU give it some...
