lots of neat stuff. I love F1.

but i still think the craziest thing is that they can get almost 800 hp out of a 2.4L v8. WITH just about everything limited. intake size, bore size (therefore displacement), rpms, type of fuel, number of valves per cyl, materials. etc etc. the list goes on and on. AND the engine block, when combined with the gearbox is a stressed member of the cars frame. Which means it needs to deliver that power, be reliable (they only get 8 engines per year) AND take the immense twisting of 4.5-5g in some corners.

pinnacle of automotive technology.

I burn about 1,100 calories each 9 mile run I do four times a week. So can I say that I just ran an F-1 race? That 0-60 time is sick.

It better produce 800 hp if it costs over $200,000. Heck, thats as much as a complete NASCAR racecar, 900 hp engine included.

Sans no super high tech electronics and on-board computer controlled systems that practically drive the car for the driver. That 800 hp is also achieved the old fashioned way using a carb and not EFI. Forgot to mention that stock cars used cost 100k and not 200k, that's what 15 years of media exposure coupled with inflation will do.

I'd be willing to bet that GM spent more than $200,000 on developing the LS3/L99/LLT/LSA

A nascar small block is not a stressed member of the frame in the race car. Not only does it have to deliver power but it has to hold the car together and be as light as possible. That's why they're expensive, it's no just a powerplant. Aside from engine power numbers, there is not a single comparable performance stat between a stock car and an F1 car.

And in F1 this year actually alot of the electronic aids are gone. No traction control or stability control allowed. all mechanical grip.

NASCAR and F1 both have their virtues.

F1 is great for speed and watching the cars dance through all the twistys and get as close as possible when trying to pass without touching, but while there are 'bumps', any little contact could ruin their race.

NASCAR is great for that wild, sustained, oval track speed in vehicles than can take a pounding and for very close, very exciting overtaking. The cars aren't the pinnacle of 'go fast' like the F1 rigs...but they also don't fly apart so easy.

Love 'em both. Actually prefer Grand Am or Indy though.

You know the F1's 0-62mph time is crazy!! "1.7 seconds"!!! I really have a hard time comprehending that type of speed. I mean how much distance can you cover in 1.7 seconds with the notion already in mind that only 0.000 seconds ago you were sitting completely still at a stop? Its mind-blowing! Can you think about how far mechanical technology has come!? They are able to take a human from 0-62mph in 1.7 seconds! As the auto-industry and military industrial complex further they're work to create all this new technology one day in the future we'll be able to do 0-60 in a time so fast it will make it almost appear as if you aren't even moving! And the military with so much of its funding is taking us in that direction with all of this new amazing tech; they have in they're possession incredible things! Humans will either destroy themselves this century or go stellar into the stars and see wonderful places.

To give you an idea about how fast that 1.7 seconds is ESPN did a race between an F1 car a fighter jet. The fighter jet isn't even close to the car until it hits the afterburners.
