Looks like a hybrid Camaro Malibu. I'm not feeling that look, but I had a 72 Chevelle and that's how I'd like to see it return.

=edit= And now that I look at it more, the little vents on either side of the lower intake look like whiskers. :p Definitely looks very cat-like to me, now.

most likely it would be in a 4 door format like this...
![]() to be honest its already back.. the Malibu LTZ . but they could easily do a badge swap..

that looks nothing like an old chevelle though and im pretty sure most including myself want it to be similar to back in the day and i know ALOT of people always say they wish the chevelle could come back, but reality that probably would not happen unfortunately.

I heard rumors at a GM convention two years ago they were kicking it around but who knows. It would be great to have a Chevelle SS again so I can park one beside the Camaro SS.
If GM were to bring it back it would most likely force the Charger to become a two door muscle car. Even though some would say to leave this legend alone and keep it dead I say kick the dirt off and get it going.

THAT is a gorgeous looking automobile.
Though I must admit that if I had enough cash, I'd add two small secret suicide doors behind the doors of my Camaro so I could have coach doors for easy access to the back seat. That or have those disappearing doors installed.

However, I know what you are saying with retro and so forth. It would be nice to see the Monte Carlo back again in V8 RWD style.

I've heard this argument many times on this board, and I just don't get it. The MORE options a customer has in a class of car from the same manufacturer, the better. As long as you're "poaching" sales from yourself, there's no problem. If the logic is that you can poach sales from yourself holds, then having different models within a class must also be bad. You could just as easily say the SS poaches sales from the V6. It does. But who cares, GM gets a sale regardless. If the SS wasn't an option, many SS owners would still have bought a V6. But some wouldn't have and GM would lose some sales without an SS option. Since GM ditched the Pontiac brand and they won't be offering a Firebird, I guarantee they have lost sales as a result. Not everyone who wanted a Firebird will buy a Camaro in it's place. Less options in the same class equals less sales. Another case in point. GM sells the exact same truck along side each other branded as GMC and Chevy. They don't care which one you choose as long as you choose one. Eliminate one of the choices and GM will lose sales. Someone who wanted a GMC truck may look at the Chevy, but he also may look at the Ford. Now his choice is between a Chevy and Ford, not a Chevy and GMC. |

my neighbor has a 1972 chevelle red with black rally stripes. it is such a sweet ride, my only thing is it's not original (but i can look past that). He put a stroked 383 in it which is a beast! the ride is effin sweet, all the way around. he wants 12k for it or will trade for a sweet motorcyle. I had 5k burning in my pocket one day and offered it to him, and would pay the rest in 2 months but my wife shut that down real quick booooooo.

If you want a new muscle car, your best bet is the ZL1 (I seriously doubt GM will jump at the opportunity to make the competition between the Corvette Z06, Camaro ZL1, and CTS-V into a four-way race for sales). If you really must have something else with an SS badge on it, maybe GM could create some new trim of the Malibu with an Ecoboost-like turbocharged V6 in it and more agressive styling - plus SS badges - and call it... whatever. Malibu SS. Chevelle. Chevelle Malibu. That doesn't matter, what does matter is that you're not going to need a lengthy and expensive design process - re-engining it and changing the styling is much faster, much cheaper, can use the same facilities with minor changes, won't incur the wrath of CAFE (you guys wishing for a big block are either fanticizing or planning on doing it yourself - right?) and could probably end up being fairly profitable. A performance 4 door car is what Chevy is missing in their lineup. To be named Chevelle it would have to live up to the reputation of the old 70 SS454/425hp. I would say it is more likely a new Impala SS will be built first.

In any case, any rumors of the current Commodore coming back to the states is irrelevant. The VF is on the way.
