Speedy, you going to be at MIR this weekend? I doubt it because of where you're at, but I'm seeing guys fly in to spectate from further away and drive down from MA and NY, so who knows. I hope to run myself, but like you, I don't have a cage, but with my blown 393, I put down over 700hp and 600lbs on pump gas, so going to try and get that to hook on street tires. Have no idea what I'll run, never had her faster than 12.6 on bpu's before the build.

Second, I didn't post this video to get in to some big debate about which car is faster, my pecker's bigger than yours blah blah blah. It was just a cool video. No more no less. I'm not brand loyal to any of them and appreciate all hot rods whether they be Mustang, Camaro, or Challenger. This guy is a good friend of mine from work. YES it does run 23lbs of boost, I've been in and around the car, and you can see the needle on his gauge in the video. Seemed like a lot of boost to me as well, but it is what it is. Truth be told, when I started to pull on him, he eased off at about the 1/8 mile mark. This was at ChallengerFest in front of about 100 Challenger owners, so while I wanted to win, I didn't wanna completely embarrass him. When I saw him falling back in my rear view I let off as well. He's quite proud of that car and there was no sense in me completely blowing him away in front of a crowd like that. I wanna race him a few more times to see what's what...his car should technically run in the low 11s or high 10s. My car's a manual trans car which are harder to launch and drive, so I like racing other manuals so they're at the same disadvantage. A buddy with a similar setup to mine on his Auto Challenger runs very low 11s every time out. Gives me something to shoot for, but I mainly just like to go to cruise ins and what not to hang out and talk cars with like minded folks. Quote:

![]() You do realize I am poking the bear.... I have an affinity for nice cars as well and enjoy watching any brand run. I believe I have seen the Challenger you speak of. Blue if not mistaken and from the Houston area. I own a Challenger as well and love it. Great car. That all said, I extend the same invitation for you to come to Texas and line up. I have about 1/4th the money put into mods that you do and am positive I would come out ahead. Best time to date has been 11.63@118 with a DA of 2,500' above SL. Just some friendly bantering. |

Yep it's a blue Challenger I'm talking about. Very cool cat owns that car and we've become great friends. I flew out to Houston in March to pit crew on his car at the TX Mile. He ran a best of 175.6MPH if memory serves. Pretty amazing to see that considering a Lambo could barely hit 168. He's going for 180 in October. He's trying to talk me in to bringing my car out there to run the mile with him. I may end up getting out that way sooner or later. 11.63 is a great time, especially if you don't have much money in the car. I assume it's a 5.0 auto trans car? Sometimes I wish mine was auto as it'd be much easier to go fast, but I like shifting gears on the street. What have you done to it? One thing about Mustangs, you can mod them up pretty cheap. In the HEMI world I'm learning everything is expensive. I put the money in mine more to be bullet proof (I'm an engineer) than to be fast. I just didn't wanna have to worry about anything when I mat the fun pedal. The ring lands in these stock HEMI engines are quite thin and tend to go pop with some frequency. Seems the rings heat up and expand...ring gap closes...ring bends up....snaps off the edge of the piston(s). No bueno. I run 11.80ish without trying too hard. A bit faster shifts and I'm in the 11.50s If I ever figure out how to do a decent burnout in this manual trans car (no line lock) I might can get in to the 11.40s.

Yeah, I didn't know that when I bought the car. This is the first Dodge product I've ever owned, and honestly didn't think I would ever like anything from Dodge. I always saw them as poor quality POS cars. I test drove this thing and fell in love with it. Mostly designed by Mercedes, so I guess that shows in the quality.
I almost bought a Camaro, but didn't like the interior. I'm hoping Chevy ups the ante there in future model years and the ZL1 has my attention. I think for the money, the 5.0 Mustang is the car to beat. You get a ton of nice options for a good price and the aftermarket loves Mustangs. Magnuson has a blower they're prepping for it and it makes some silly power when coupled with a decent exhaust system. Apparently the cam profile in the car is wonky when it comes to boost and it needs the exhaust to help. My only complaint about the Mustang is the back seat....might as well not have one really. I'm not a very big guy and I can't even sit back there. How am I supposed to get my cheer leaders to the track with me without a usable back seat?

My car is a manual as well. I am running into a traction issue myself and am looking at going to a 10" rim with a full slick. On that 11.68 run my 60' time was a 1.68 which is terrible. Should be cutting mid-1.5's. That would drop my ET a couple of tenths. Corrected time for the DA looks like 11.29@121. Wish we had more than 2 months a year with decent air here.... I think the car has some low 11's in it. I would be ecstatic to get a high 10 however that will take all the planets/stars, etc. lining up in the galaxy I believe. Power mods: Boss intake Airaid CAI O/R x-pipe BBK shorties Tune Supporting mods: Alum. D/S Alum. flywheel with twin disc clutch Barton shifter CHE suspension/chassis upgrades Magnaflow cat-back (no power gain to be had on these with a cat-back) Car has put down 450WHP with mentioned mods. I shift at ~7,700RPM. Dyno sheet: ![]() 11.63 pass: I took our Challenger out early this year and ran a best of 13.4@104 bone stock. It is an auto. Has a canned Diablo tune and muffler deletes on it now. I had plans to mod it but decided against as it is my wife's primary car and she really doesn't care how fast it is. Use it as a family hauler primarily. |

Man wbt, that's excellent in a manual car. From the sounds of your shifts you could give me some pointers. Those sound quick.
I'd be ECSTATIC with a 1.6x 60'. Mine are always around 1.90. If I could get a 1.6x I'd be in the low 11s and would be thrilled. I've not gotten the guts to power shift this car yet. It's still got the stock clutch in it and I drive it to the track and drive it home, so I'm always paranoid I'll blow up the trans if I do it. So I'm off the gas, on the clutch, shift the gear, off the clutch, back on the gas. In one of my data logs it shows I take .8 seconds to shift and I have to shift three times. That's 2.4 seconds I'm not putting power down, and in that log I thought I had shifted pretty good. It sounds like your power shifting that car...is that correct? What's your car weigh with you in it? Mine's right at 4350. Here's my PB run: How'd your buddy's 5.0 do in the mile? |

From the sound of it, you have quite a bit of ET to gain still. I would recommend moving away from a drag radial and over to a bias ply tire. Manual trans cars hit the tires harder on launch and a radial tire does not respond well to that. I know you are size limited but there are several manufactures that make a 17" bias ply DOT drag tire. That will help you more than anything. For the burnout, I wet the tires in the waterbox, roll out a couple of feet and dump the clutch while at the same time hitting the brake pedal with my left foot. (no line lock here) Here is an example: Same boat as you, drive to the track, swap tires, run, swap back and drive home. Not sure on the weight as I forgot last time to roll over the scales at the track. I would venture to guess around 3,650 with me in it. Our Challenger was 4,280 with me in it on that 13.4 run.
