Getting rust off chrome wheels - Page 2

I ordered some stuff called StrongArmSpray (strongarmsprays.com). I am going to test it out. Not sure how I feel about taking the tire off all the way. That'll be my next option though. Will let you know how it goes.

Wow ... those look pretty shot ...
Try "Navel Jelly" & some "00" Steel Wool....
Don't rub too hard.
Rub in a back & forth motion.... don't rub in a circular motion
Be sure to rinse off all the jelly.
Then use some good ol' chrome polish....

try some tripple o steel wool and then use never dull on them,if that doesn't do it then there done for.this is what i have used before.
in the winter i would always coat my chrome wheels with a coat of grease.

I've used something similar to Nevr-Dull before my wheels got this bad. It's what I used to polish them. I've just been really busy and haven't had time to clean my wheels when it rained and stuff. Got a set of winter wheels on there now so I'm gonna take my time cleaning them, then hope I can keep them on during the winter this year if I can keep them clean and waxed. I'll post progress on here if anyone is interested in that strong arm stuff.

They're not that expensive of a wheel. Why not just junk them and buy new ones.

Just get new chrome wheels. Like many posters have said the chrome has completely worn off your wheels and rust has set in. There is a misconception that chrome is the only metal used on some wheels and some old bumpers. When you usually see chrome its only chrome plating. Chrome itself is very heavy and more expensive to steel to work with. Chrome plating provides protection to the base metal to rust. Chrome is itself is very resistant to rust and the process of plating provides a cheap and efficient protection that also adds some luster at the same time.

I'd rather not spend any extra money than I have to to clean these wheels. I'd buy nicer ones if I had the money. These just came on the car when I bought it and they were nice 3 years ago haha.

I found that I can scrape the rust off with a razor blade, so maybe I can do that then spray paint them or something. I'll post some pictures soon once I get the one in the picture completely done.

With out a pic I can't tell you if they are junk but, my wife has chrome wheels on her van and she never cleans them so winter rusts them up good. I bought some Maguiers Chrome Wheel cleaner just for the hell of it. To my surprise the wheels came out great!!! You just spray it on the wheels, wait a couple minutes, use an SOS pad and lightly scrub the wheels then rinse them off. I did not have to scrub them very hard at all!!! You may want to give it a try, worked for me.

Unless its cheap chrome that you get maybe a a yr before surface rust sets in, or pay big money for hard chrome they use on big rigs that will never ever rust. But you pay out the nose as they sell less parts then.

Reg car rims are always cheap chrome that will rust if not kept clean.
