Back on topic, I'm sure the Governor's office in Ohio is doing back flips, as well as a lot of people in Toledo! Great news!

Which is SAD and PATHETIC...

Only in America does this happen. America, and perhaps the Chinese because they are desperately trying to emulate us, are the only markets that support in high numbers the foreign makers who could effect our own national economy. People complain about 9% unemployment as they drive their Lexus made in Japan... or their 3 series made in Germany. If those car sales were going to American makers... then that 9%.. would probably be cut in half. This goes hand in hand with not supporting your AMERICAN local plants.

Great news, I assume the 8 spd trans will be for GM's RWD vehicles. Trucks, Vette, Cadillac, Camaro etc.. This makes my day, cause I have been hearing GM's Alpha Chasis is in major trouble and is totaly overwieght.

Jeep Wranglers, Libertys, and Dodge Nitros are built/assembled at the Chrylser North Toledo Assembly Plant....

Just saying.. Toledo has other priorities. Look up Willys-Overland, Kaiser automobiles, AMC, and Chrylser. You'll notice a certian 70 year lineage.

But his point is true, I'm no expert here but Don't many other nations have extremely high import taxes on many products thus makeing Domestic products more finacialy attractive to there import counter parts? Thus keeping jobs and Money spent at home and those who do buy foriegn the insane taxes they pay for it is a source of revenue.

It is. However re-read his last sentence. Supporting your local Auto Assembly plants?

I'd say my comment answered only that, which was the point. Do I have a thing about import tarrifs? Hell yeah, look at the Yen and Yuan prices for a Camaro!

However, it's more dug in with politics these days, what with states giving incentives to open plants and the like. I think it really comes down to the 'pride' some economists working for The Republic of XYZ may have over domestic products leading to the line of thinking "Boost domestic industry, tax the hell out of imports!"
