That might be the biggest missunderestimated statement of any comment associated with the ZL1/Z28/GT500/Boss discussion.
Nothing? Are you sure you don't want to re evaluate your position on that? And based on the timing (and I posted it in the "2014 Mustang" thread asking if anyone had pics of an IRS Mustang driving around) this just as likely to be a 2014 Chassis development car more than anything else. Not saying Ford wouldn't/couldn't put an IRS into a low volume run of specialty cars, but to do this for a GT500 would either mean a big price hit or they are going across the board with IRS. And that means this is either the next Gen Mustang chassis in a current car or Ford is plowing a ton of money into an old platform meaning the 2014 Mustang......................well may not be in 2014.

Misunderestimated? We've got George W on the boards. Sorry, couldn't resist.
Anyway, the idea that IRS means nothing is inaccurate imo, but so is the idea that a mustang equipped with a SRA has no chance of keeping up with zl1. Meanwhile, the 302 ls is beating the 997 turbo around laguna seca with 444hp. This has happened before. The solid axle couldn't possibly get much better than what was in the gt500, then came the boss. The 5.0 couldn't possibly respond well to bolt ons, it haaadd to be maxed from the factory, then people started doing it and we know what happened. . . until we know details, we don't know the potential. For all we know, they could be shedding weight, adding tech, etc. |

I've posted it before, the Boss is an IRS and a nice interior from being a truly world class car. So to be clear, an IRS would make the Boss even better, which means it has value.

I'm so sick of this. Ford, Shelby, and everyone else making one or more of the Mustang's 490315897582752389789465 special editions need to establish a heritage. Shelby needs to decide what is going to be the names and numbers of their products and make some effort at keeping them in place instead of adding something new every time another engine or tune comes out. Right now, it is too hard to keep up with what is supposed to be what in the Mustang lineup.

Ford didn't utilize IRS in the Mustang for 2 reasons: cost, and weight. That doesn't mean IRS doesn't add value, just not enough in Ford's eyes to go forward with it. But the weight is creeping up anyway. Used to be the idea of a 3500 lb. Mustang was an abomination, now its reality. Only in comparison to the Camaro and Challenger is it viewed as "light."

What is so confusing about the Mustang line? Seriously I was a GM die hard before went to ford.com and was pretty much "caught up" and up to speed in the matter of minutes. Roush's, Saleen's, Supersnakes, GT350's are all aftermarket packages done outside of the factory just like SLP, Hennessy, ect, so all there is to choose from is V6 GT Boss GT500 You act as if there has been a GT500, GT540, GT550, GT600. I dont see that as being "Too hard to keep up with" but I'm willing to help you out via PM if you like. I actually think the Vette has just as many if not more variants and optional packages. |

In 2010, the following packages were also available:
I left out Saleen and SMS models because they are not as consistently available at dealers, much like SLP products are not consistently available at Chevy stores. Let's also not forget about limited editions like the prostate cancer awareness model. ![]() Here is a resource with information on Mustang models.

Every single one of those is authorized by Ford Motor Company.
I also failed to answer your point about heritage. You're right that some models have a long history. Take the GT500 and GT models. They haven't really moved much. However, we can't forget about classics, like the SVT Cobra, that are no longer part of the lineup. When the Cobra was on the lot, other models were notably absent. It suggests that Ford decided to, rather than continuing a tradition that would only come back later, change its branding and offer a different name. Basically, Chevrolet kept certain products in certain places. A Z28 was always a Z28. They never called it a Camaro Panther. Ford would replace one model with another model that held the same place with a different name. For enthusiasts, that's both confusing and redundant.

http://www.worldcarfans.com/11102173...o-twice-a-year I don't really get your point about the cobra. GT500, GT350, super snake and Boss 302 are full of heritage, far more than the svt cobra. |
