I just read the list of deceased on the wiki page and your mom was lucky to make it out alive. I cant believe firefighters were shot and beaten to death while trying to keep the neighborhood from burning. :(

Luckily she worked on Jefferson and Guard got downtown blocked off. She was able to evac before the riot got really bad.

Having been through Detroit several times in my life, seeing a headline that 25% of the population left leaves me wondering why 75% would stay.
