I don't care if they are sacrifing their bodies, the ones that play that much make enough in a year to retire on comfortably the rest of their life. Besides, no one is holding a gun to their head and forcing them to play; if they don't like it, they can go get a different job.

I love football, but I think I'm done. I have better things to do on a Sunday than watch these spoiled brats throw a ball around. I also think the next few years will be interesting, as I suspect more people are going to feel like me and stop watching altogether, especially if there are any missed games due to a strike. Heck, the bucs were blacked out all last season because they couldn't sell enough tickets. If there's a strike, they may really go down.

Basically, if the played don't quit their whining, this may be the beginning of an end for NFL as we know it, and in a few years the players may be wishing they had their pre '11 salaries back!
i don't think there's enough people that think the way you do. This has happened before, and the NFL didn't skip a beat after they came back from missing 9 games.

Also, I understand the dislike of the high priced players, but this really isn't about them. this is about the players as a whole, vs the owners. Believe it or not, the average player doesn't make millions. And the average player lasts about 3 or 4 years in the league. So I can understand them trying to get as much as possible in the small time frame they have. There is a VERY select few that make it to the NFL. IMO, those select few are very talented individuals.

So the average player only last in the NFL for 3 or 4 years, and makes mid to high 6 figures while riding the bench. I should feel sorry for this individual? Why? Because he might get hurt if he ever plays or gets off the practice squad?

That's the risk you run in any career. Football, baseball, fire fighter, construction worker, etc.

Sorry I am on the owners side. Name an industry where you can see your bosses books and demand 50% of the pie. Does the NFL owners get 50% of Bradys and Manning endorsements from reebok, under amor, Sony, uggs, gatorade?.

Like I said what ever side wins, we lose. Should never come to this

I place the blame on the players agents. There wasnt any/as many issues until those scumbags took greed to a new level.

Let's see....... make high six figures sitting on the bench, while I work 5, maybe six days a week and maybe if I am lucky make a low and I mean low six figures. If I want to go watch a game it will take a good 400.00 and I am supposed to feel sorry for them. NOT

Players want owners to open the books, Seriously? Name a business any business that the owner shows the EMPLOYEE the books, NONE. Very few of the PLAYERS had anything before playing football much less the ablity to have financial independence and now they sign contracts in the millions. People say agents take money, they don't know how to invest etc... well I guess they should have stayed in school and learned that stuff, again I do not feel sorry for them.

The kids are told from a very early age how great and wonderful they are, just look at college recruiting, it has become a circus, with props, entire TV shows dedicated to where some kid is going to play football and over half turn out to be a joke. Just like the NFL Draft Case and Point Ryan Leaf and JaMarcus Russel.

The NFL made 9 BILLION dollars last year and they want more, the average player made about 3 million dollars( A GUESS) and they want more. I guarantee you this that not many 20 somethings would pass up 3 mil a year o get paid to stay in shape, play a game, live the life of an NFL player with the access they have.

The owners cry about losing money, well quit building 3 billion dollar stadiums, quit charging 9.00 for a hot dog and 7.00 for a coke plus 35.00 for parking. There is so much money for the NFL to go around.

BUT here is the biggest point of all. Each one of us on this forum has a job or had a job. Each job has a set of rules and regulations and requirements for that job plus a salary scale. We knew when we took our jobs what the pay was, the pay scale and what we could expect to earn, the longevity of our life for our jobs ( SEE MILITARY DOOR GUNNER or COAL MINER) and we either chose to take it or not knowing the dangers, and for whatever reason we chose to take it. SO NFL Players quit whining that I may get hurt, life expectency is 3 years yada yada yada, you know the risk and you take the money. Owners collect the revenue and need to budget their money better.

I for one think they are all paid entirely too much and could take less to help fans out but greed has taken over and kicked in. JMHO

I never said to feel sorry for anyone. What I'm saying is that these guys have the opportunity to play in the NFL. Something only a select few get to do. So of course they want to cash in, because honestly, they probably can't do much else out in the real world. The owners already agreed in the last CBA to give over 60% of the total revenue. So now it's the players fault that they make 6 figures? Now the owners don't even give the players the light of day when a new CBA needs to be done when the players union asks for 50%, which is already a 10% cut from the last deal? And that was just a starting point...

Also, you should look up unions. They get to negotiate with the employer about how much they make...among other things. What the percentage is? I'm not sure, can't say that it is or isn't higher then 50%. Depends on the business. The NFL is run by 31 majority owners and has over 1600 STARTING players (does not include practice squad, etc). So how does it make sense to pay the players with a small piece of the pie, when they've already given up 60% previously?

Sorry if I don't shed a tear for them. They got a free ride to get a degree, if they majored in basket weaving and can't do anything else, then shame on them. I went to school, and now 10% of my after tax income goes to student loan payments. And, I worked hard and got some scholarships, as well as went to community for my AA first, to keep my costs down. I really don't care about some brat that makes 300K a year for 3 or 4 years, then is unemployed. They can save enough in those 3 or 4 years to do alot of things. Go back to school, open a business, whatever.

The problem is that they are alienating their fan base. I can't relate to someone making $300K and up and complaining that it isn't enough. I'm not on the owner's side either, I just think they should all shut up and play.

that's just it. the players aren't complaining. They offered a deal LESS THAN what the previous deal was. The owners didn't even get close enough to sniff the paper. They already planned on a lockout. They already planned on screwing the fans.

Then they will lose, too. Just search the 'net for effects of the MLB strike, and see. It took years for MLB to recover from that, attendance and revenue wise. In these situations, they all lose, both the owners and players. That's why I keep saying that I'm not on the owner's side, either. Trust me, while I like the Rooney's, The Glazier's are as greedy and slimy as they come, and I would love to see them get hit in their pocketbook.

I think the ONLY salary requirement should be a cap, just to keep things even. Without a cap, football will be like baseball where only the top earning teams ever win, and it will get boring quick. So, the actual salaries should be between the owners and players.

And now a word from Roger:
Dear NFL Fan,

When I wrote to you last on behalf of the NFL, we promised you that we would work tirelessly to find a collectively bargained solution to our differences with the players’ union. Subsequent to that letter to you, we agreed that the fastest way to a fair agreement was for everyone to work together through a mediation process. For the last three weeks I have personally attended every session of mediation, which is a process our clubs sincerely believe in.

Unfortunately, I have to tell you that earlier today the players’ union walked away from mediation and collective bargaining and has initiated litigation against the clubs. In an effort to get a fair agreement now, our clubs offered a deal today that, among other things, was designed to have no adverse financial impact on veteran players in the early years, and would have met the players’ financial demands in the latter years of the agreement.

The proposal we made included an offer to narrow the player compensation gap that existed in the negotiations by splitting the difference; guarantee a reallocation of savings from first-round rookies to veterans and retirees without negatively affecting compensation for rounds 2-7; no compensation reduction for veterans; implement new year-round health and safety rules; retain the current 16-4 season format for at least two years with any subsequent changes subject to the approval of the league and union; and establish a new legacy fund for retired players ($82 million contributed by the owners over the next two years).

It was a deal that offered compromise, and would have ensured the well-being of our players and guaranteed the long-term future for the fans of the great game we all love so much. It was a deal where everyone would prosper.

We remain committed to collective bargaining and the federal mediation process until an agreement is reached, and call on the union to return to negotiations immediately. NFL players, clubs, and fans want an agreement. The only place it can be reached is at the bargaining table.

While we are disappointed with the union’s actions, we remain steadfastly committed to reaching an agreement that serves the best interest of NFL players, clubs and fans, and thank you for your continued support of our league. First and foremost it is your passion for the game that drives us all, and we will not lose sight of this as we continue to work for a deal that works for everyone.

Yours,

Roger Goodell

If the players don't like it, then they should go play in the UFL.

Check out Adrian Petersons comments,

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...at-nfl-owners/

Yeah he sure sounds like he knows what's going on!!

Oh and love how he compares the NFL labor situation to "Modern Day Slavery". Yeah if I can make millions playing a game, get million dollar endorsements, free food, clothes, medical for playing a game.....sign me up.

Have no problem calling the owners master.

It looks like with that "FREE" higher education Peterson received he failed study the whole slavery situation to get a better understanding of it.

I think he pretty much nailed the point. Once a CBA is expired, that's it, there's nothing saying they have to use the last CBA as a starting point to negotiate the next one.

If the owners want to, they don't have to negotiate at all. It's their money, they invest how they see fit. If I went to my boss and said I want 50% of what you make and show me your books... you bet your ass I'd be on the street and he'd find someone else. That's how the world works, if they don't like it they can go play in Europe.

Basically your seeing it as "negotiation" between two equal parties. That's not the case at all, the players union is coming to the table asking for a chunk of the OWNERS money.
