Cancel the check, immediately. Call them and tell them that you were threatened into writing it and that it is void. Since such a thing done under duress is void.

Your lawyer is an idiot. For a $1000, you could have gone to small claims court without a lawyer.

I wouldn't have paid them a dime, hopefully you didn't sign anything further. If you did, your screwed. If you didn't sign any new price agreement, take them to small claims court for the $1000.

Send a letter to the state's Attorney General and BBB. They'll enjoy having to respond to those. I had a Sony TV repair shop screw me over once damaging a TV. Our states AG sent them a few nice letters inquiring how they were going to resolve the matter. New TV!

Edit: I can understand you paying them.

They could ruin your credit or send something to collections.

Messing up your credit is not worth it. Pay them and like you said, do not ever have anything to do with them again.

Your story is one in ONE BILLION different stories about being screwed over at a dealership. Don't feel bad. To me you got off cheap.

Ah man!! You should not have done that. You'll never see the money.

Wow I can't believe you just gave them $1,000 extra dollars for nothing. I guess all it takes is for someone to call u a couple times and you start throwing that kind of cash at them.that was weak sauce so disappointing, I'm done with this thread.

How'd the call with the owner go??
I also would not have given them any money.....Didn't Chrysler corporate say they'd back you on this one? Didn't you call them back?
I would have let this play out and not pay them........
How did they threaten you to make you write the check?
I understand "doing the right thing", but they shoud have done the right thing with you first.
I still don't understand how you've had the new car for 4-6 weeks and this is just coming to light now.

I followed the advice of a lawyer. Sorry guys. My credit is worth something to me. This isn't over and I think it will be better when the dealership has to write me a check for $1000 and admit the mistake. Consumer affairs will be getting involved as well.

I realize that you are concerned about your credit, but that can be fixed. Especially considering that they assumed the loan when they signed the dotted line. I really hope you get somewhere with Chrysler, they are now your best chance of getting anywhere in the matter.

i agree. they signed in agreement of the entire deal. Did you even go to the lot to see if your car was even there?????? they probably sold that shit at an auction by now if it didnt sell on the used car lot. cars dont sit long at dealers because they too take out loans and have to pay for them after a while.

I can save you a ton of headache.....they won, you lost move on.

They have your money.

Why is it YOUR fault you got a better deal. If the situation had been reversed they would tell you shove it. The burden is on the buyer to beware. Well except when the dealer can't do the math correctly, then its buyer beware. Good golly man, you have to pic out the vehicle tell them how to print up the paper work, check the figures for them....Did you have to do your own dealer prep and wash it for them too?

If they had you over the barrel so to speak, WHY on earth would they settle for $1000 when they could have "forced" you to pay the whole thing?

It is ILLEGAL for them to screw up your credit when you have a signed contract.

I repeat, IF they did ANYTHING to your credit because you refused to pay them not only could the dealer be closed down but the owner and general manager would face federal charges. This all is spelled out in black and white in the FDCPA.

Everything they told you was lies to extort more money out of you and you fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

Good luck trying to get the dealer to give you your money back, I don't see it happening. Your best bet is going to your bank and filling a fraud claim.
