my daughters cat started having seizures

got woke up at about 3am this morning, by the heater being knocked over & my daughters cat howling, I was sleeping in the living room. I didnt know what was going on, so I stayed up with her for a while. & was just getting back to sleep when I heard banging again. I woke up & caught her in the middle of a Heavy seizure. got her relaxed & then she had another one, which took her across the living. at that point in time my husband got up to see what was going on.

I went to go get my daughter of course when I did that, trouble (her cat) mellowed out a little & relaxed. for several hours. she had another one & just lied there didnt want to get up.

my sister in law suggested sugar water & we gave her some & then let her have some of the cat treats we have in the house, she starting to perk up a little.

the cat is almost as old as my daughter

scared to lose her.

Mr Pablo, my 16yo cat recently has had a seizure, so I know how this feels. First, if the cat is seizing more then 5 min at a time it's really bad. Second, is the cat aware of it's surroundings after the seizure? If the cat is seizing, taking to a vet is crucial, since they had meds that can stop the seizures when they start; giving the cat a rest and time to recuperate.

There appear to be 3 different types of seizures in cats.

One is metabolic, where there is something building up in the system (usually in the fat) and has been released for some reason, causing a seizure. These, I'm told, are usually once or twice off and not life threatening; provided you find the cause and trigger.

The second is epileptic seizures which are fairly common and treatable with medication.

The third is brain related, and never good. This is usually a sign of a growth in the brain. Cat's brains are walnut sized and surgery this fine just isn't possible. Plus you need an MRI to see it, which is pricey and requires them to be sedated, further stressing the cat's liver and kidneys (never good for cats, since they have such highly concentrated urea).

I highly recommend taking the cat to a good vet. And making the best choice for the cat's quality of living.

We'll keep the cat and your daughter in our thoughts tonight.

shes almost 12yrs old. she was born wild (so having her being a part of the family is not unheard of, but not common) she was about 6weeks-8 weeks old when she was rescued from a feed store where she was born at, (they were going to put her down) she spent a couple weeks with my inlaws before she was shipped down here. she soon attached her self to my daughter (who was just a baby at the time) she puts up with the rest of us, but my daughter is HER GIRL.

she doesnt seize for 5 mins, only a couple (maybe 2 tops)
right now she is sitting beside me on the couch pretty happy but her eyes are almost fully dialated. more color is coming back to them, as the day goods on.

as for knowing where she is at yes.she curls closer to my daughter or myself, when the first one sets on, but the 2nd one she wants nothing to do with us until its over with.

Kiwi my cat had seizures and it was because she was allergic to her flea medicine. Take her to the vet and see if something is triggering it.

The deciding factor to take her to the vet, was vetoed, by my daughter. Yes shes 12yrs old, but still this is her cat.

we decided to see how things went for today.
the kids have been wanting to go to the movies, for the last few days. so we went. praying the whole time the cat was going to be ok.

Well we came back home the cat was hiding, but alive, we we started moving around the house trouble came out & started hanging out with us. we have been home a couple hours & no seizures yet.

she was watching the door to see my husband walk in which is good.

we will see what tonight brings,
Trouble (my daughter is in the back ground)

her laying on my husbands cougar football.

the kids slept out in the living room with her last night lol, My husband said it was a jungle of bodies, my daughter on the floor with the cat either sleeping on top of her or the cat sleeping beside her & my son sleeping on the loveseat. lol
No more seizures. So I think she may of gotten in to something that was on the floor. we are cleaning the house right now.

My bedroom (where we think she got something) is all clean top to bottom. (my husband is on some pills that may of made her sick) & the kids are cleaning up their room as well.

so no vet unless she has more.

shes been laying quitely either in the window, where she can be found most days, or laying on the couch next to me or my daughter (which is odd for her to be on the couch at all except for the back of it).

I took her in to my daughters room & she layed there for a few mins then came back out in the living room.

but the good thing is NO seizures in over 24hrs
