GM has done this for years. GM even worked with Mercury Marine to develop the 1990 to 1995 ZR1 Corvette LT5 engine.

A lot of inboards are GM engines so a lot of close ties with that industry.

I even have a 4.3L from a boat that is now in my S10. The engine is early to mid 80s I believe.

I know the big 3 have been in with the I/O market for years, but that's the first I ever heard of a production automotive V8 used as an outboard... pretty cool!

Saw those at the Miami Boat Show last week. Pretty awesome stuff. Can't wait to see them in action.

GM worked with Mercury Marine. Lotus may have had some design input, but not the final assembly. I'm not sure, but GM may have actually owned Lotus back then. LOL

Yup, yup, yup, and toward the end, yup (AFTER you ran off Toyota LOL)

LT5 was designed and developed by Group Lotus. Chevrolet-Pontiac-GM Canada (CPC) Engineering provided concept direction and design input. Interestingly, during the LT5 program, GM bought Group Lotus so, in the end, the design of the LT5 ended up an intercontinental, in-house effort. The combination of Lotus' dual-overhead cam racing engine technology and Chevrolet's expertise in building millions of production line engines made for (quoting Chevrolet's technical information) "a synergistic effort that resulted in a design that was better than either group could have done independently."
Merc in Stillwater, Ok built most if not all of the motors. You guys even built a 87 ZR1 Camaro for the Heritage collection that sold at Barrett for ~$30G best I recall
