Winter preparations begin - Page 2

I'm planning on a few more cruises in the SS while the weather cooperates.

Putting "him" away only makes Spring that much more enjoyable when "he" comes out of the garage for the first time.

And I wouldn't live anywhere where there's no snow. Nothing like a good, deep snowstorm to get outside and enjoy.

Here in Orlando it might get to mid 40's-50's this winter so I may need to break out the heavy clothes:eek: probly in late November though.
I want to see snow again, the last time I saw it I was on vacation in Tennessee a few years ago going up a mountain and seeing small piles of it where all the people with Florida plates were stopped LMAO!!

Even if I did live up north I wouldn't have anything special to put away for the winter:(

Sorry Moose, "He"...You're right...All my cars have been she's so far though, slip of the tongue. Minivan's....

But my new Cobalt will be a "he", and the Camaro will def. be a "He"...oh, and all boats are "she's"....

but I digress, Winter equals change, and I love change, cause it keeps things interesting. The trouble is, we don't get 'normal' Winters. Untill the lakes freeze up, we get lake-effect snow that just pommels us for the first half of the season (usually). So, salt or no salt...I would feel comfortable letting "him" out in that. I'll see if I can find a picture, but We got a full 7 feet of snow one year!

And, how does washing the car work in the winters? I've never done it, but am keenly interested...

Easy. Drive into the carwash bay, use the high pressure nozzle to spray the car down w/soapy water. Rinse the car off using same said nozzle. LOL

There are, of course, other options for the nozzle as well. And you can bring something to wipe down the car as well if you so choose.

There is also the 'brushless' automatic carwash. Pull into the bay put in the specified amount of $ and an array of high pressure nozzles move back and forth around the car washing and rinsing it. I believe you can even get a spray wax in some places.

There is a place around the corner from me that combines both the traditional carwash (spray nozzle you use yourself) and the 'brushless' automatic carwash. If you need a pic I could swing over and snap one. LOL

If, and when it's necessary to wash the SS, I watch the outside temps., and once it's above freezing, I'm out there like a dope. :o

Then it's quickly back inside the garage, with the portable heaters going.

Oh...see when I hear "washing your car in the winter because of salt" I think: the undersides, more than the body, in which case - I was wondering how you deal with the water freezing under there, once you're done washing...

Ellwyn...I know how a carwash works, lol

I missed the "salt" part...

Fortunately I haven't had to drive the SS once there is salt on the roads in years. But on the occassions I did, I knelt down in the driveway, did the best I could, and once back in the garage, I used the aircompressor to "blow dry" the undercarriage.

Yeah when I wash my car in the winter I make sure it's above freezing and bring towels with me to dry her off before I leave.

Of course the automatic car wash has the huge turbo-dryers! Those things are awesome!!

LOL Well, you didn't specify what kind of car washing you meant.

I've rarely even looked under one of my cars, let alone washed it. The body is all I'm concerned with looking good.

I drive mine 365 days a year, Ive driven her from south GA to chicago in december many times for leave. wont be making that drive from here in washington but I still gotta get to work...and Im not driving the wife's focus!
