Now im chokin

That would be that lag in time where fireworks became real hard to get [as when younger you could get them easy] but you could still buy a 1lb can of black powder real easy. Water proof wicks at hobby store and a hotglue gun makes anything into a big firecracker. [Brutte bottles made a great depth charge.]

Other id say would be playing guns, both real and fake. Use to be a double wide, mile long section of just toy guns at every store. And thats right where all the boys went. You ran to the gun section to check em out. Then once older walking around with 22s shooting everything feeding the turkey buzzards [that would never come in range ] and no one freaked out.

Now Im afraid to be seen with an airsoft BB gun outside and having the SWAT team show up.

How about walking to the bus stop, which when i was a kid was over a 1/2 mile away. now it seems the bus stops at every other house to pick kids up. or burning gi joes with a magnifying glass.

on a side note i remember drooling over a haro, gt dyno, and a mongoose bike, now you can buy a mongoose at wal-mart wtf

a little ray of hope is that I see kids in their little bike group going around my neighborhood, i just get nervous when they get too close to my driveway! haha "YOU DAMN KIDS GET AWAY FROM MY LAWN!!"...omg I've become that mean man down the street haha.

Kid's today have all the leverage over their parents. For example: I was a child in the 70's and my dad belted my ass, whipped me with tree limbs, etc. when I was misbehaving.
Today if a parent applies any physical discipline on a misbehaving child, the child or a nosey neighbor reports it to the Police, the parent gets booked for battery on a child/minor, and CPS shows up at the door to "rescue" the "abused" child. It's not fair!!

I have to agree. Things are different now. People try and fool-proof the world. We regulate and eliminate products in order to prevent kids from getting hurt, but think nothing of letting crack whores have children year after year.

Back to the memories.

Lawn darts! Thanks for bringing that up! I can't remember anyone standing under one when it was coming.

Small darts. We actually got into a dart fight once. Nothing like a dart sticking out of your leg.

Unrestricted access to fireworks. Building model planes and cars, then blowing them up with fire crackers and M-80's in the back yard.

BB guns. Nothing like shooting your best friend. Ouch.

Complete trench works for plastic army men in the back yard. Real firebombing with gasoline.

Being able to buy spray paint without a permit. Climbing the city water tower and painting your initials.

After we turned 16 and started driving, I'm not even going into some of the crazy stuff we did. My friend totaled his mom's car. We're lucky to still be alive.

On second thought, kids are stupid, especially unsupervised kids. Maybe the whole safety thing has some merits.

But it was no big deal to get some black powder and water proof wick and turn every container you can find into a bomb. No one was trying to kill anyone.
LOL! I thought we were the only ones who did that. Empty airgun CO2 containers worked best. We called them home-made M80's. Great for throwing into a stock-pond to see what was in it...or for flushing out a port-o-john.

The movie Grown Ups with Adam Sandler. Arrow Roulette? Yes, sadly, I have played that game.

And the lawn darts were called "Jarts". I think it would be illegal to own now.

It's the kids that got beat as children ,got hurt on there bikes, stuck there fingers in the fan that are making the laws these days and trying to be so protective. It's the parents of these kids that are wimps. I'm more old school with my daughter(as far as not being over protective) and she's a lot tougher than most of the boys in her class let alone the girls. They can't figure out that you can't make enough laws to keep everyone 100% safe.

[Raises hand] It hurt, but everybody lived and remained friends!

Riding in the back of the pick-up sitting on the edge of the bed or dangling your feet while sitting on the tailgate was fun.

Lawn darts, playing army with BB guns, riding bikes or skateboards with no helmets, etc. It was considered punishment to have to stay inside for the day and now kids just want to camp out in front of the TV all day.

NO KIDDING! Pay attention next Christmas morning. I used to go outside and see all of the neighborhood kids riding NEW bikes, NEW skateboards, playing with new street hockey gear, etc...I don't see that these days. I play a lot of Xbox myself, but if the sun is out and I'm off work, good luck keeping me inside!

I swear, we're going to raise a generation of hypochondriacs. I mean, isn't the point of being a kid to go outside and hurt yourself with your friends/siblings so you know not to do it again?
