Cute puppy! Get a book and read is the best you can do if you have never owned a dog before.
This is one of the best books out there: Dr. Pitcairn's New Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats I did this and 8.5 yr later my Newfoundland is still the healthiest Newfy around. Follow the advice is all I can say. http://www.amazon.com/Pitcairns-Comp.../dp/157954973X |

If it's only one month old, you'll more than likely have some separation anxiety problems with the dog. When it wakes up, take it out. After it eats, take it out and when it goes, use the same spot everytime; "Oh, this is where I do my business". If I were you, I'd try sleeping with it for at least a couple of months so you'll take over as mother and will also help develop you as alpha dog (also might help with separation anxiety).
Read, read and keep reading. Cesar Millan is also a good source as he understands dog psych. I've also watched a few shows on wild dogs and learned a lot. Another thing would be socializing it with other dogs but make sure all dogs have their shots. It's like a kid, so you'll need to be committed and good luck..

You my friend will have your hands full for the first year plus. I agree that any breeder should not separate it's litter from the mother for a minimum of 8 weeks. Worming is done in two doses prior to 8 weeks. See a vet - yes, visits are expensive. Shots being at 6-9 weeks with rabies at 12 weeks. Be responsible, spay or neuter at 6 months.
Absolutely crate train your dog. Your pup is ready to take outside for housetraining around 5 wks. Always reward her/him for every little accomplishment performed. Now is also the time for simple commands, "sit" (with the help of a small snack), etc. Raising a pup is a lot of work (just like raising a child). This little one will need taken outside 6+ times a day. I also agree with two small meals twice a day (with quality puppy food) and water only. There are lots of invaluable pieces of information on the internet, please read and learn - you will have a happy, healthier puppy. Be patient - it's just a baby.. Good Luck. |

huskys are dogs that like to dig holes.. they were bred to be in the snow and therefore were taught to dig holes for their owners to sleep in.. it's part of the breed... so expect it.

Like others have said, take it to a vet, and keep up with the shots. I would also read up on parvo, it's easy for them to come into contact with it. You have to start training it from the start, gotta show it who is boss from the start, but be careful not to be too strict.

She is quite adorable! Have you named her yet? I have always had dogs in my life and have done a lot of dog rescue and volunteer work at local shelters. A couple tricks you can try if she gets crying at night or has separation anxiety is to put a ticking clock nearby that she can hear...it will remind her of her mother's heartbeat. You can also use talk radio while you are away as the voices will be comforting and she won't feel like she is alone. I want to emphasize exercise, exercise, exercise!!! Huskies without a proper outlet for all of their energy will become destructive!!!

Good luck, huskies are very high energy dogs that need a lot of positive reinforcement training. You can't let them run off leash or where there's no fences or you'll never get them back. They are bred to pull so leash walking is a trained habit for them. Get a bicycle when it's older and let it run alongside the bike for exercise. A tired dog gets in less trouble. A bored dog that gets no exercise is a nuisance and you'll regret it.

Don't feed it Eukanuba....
She'll eat her poop and the belching smells worse than poop. I know firsthand. But yes, 2 times a day...rates on the bag. And if a month old, puppy milk replacer till weaned at 8 weeks...usually 6-8 times a day.

We have had two or three dogs at at time since 1989. You going to need some patience. Take your dog out as often as possible until she lets you know when she wants to go out. All of our dogs have been rescue dogs and sometimes we have ask ourselves why did we get this dog ? In time they all turned out to be good dogs. We have two and a half Cocker Spaniels. We live in Pennsylvania and our one dog came from Georgia, one from a local humane league and one from Craigs list. Like I said you will need lots of patience.
