Genesis Coupe v8 429hp

I did a search for Genesis and didn't see anything other than the video awhile back of someone comparing it to the v6 camaro which caused drama in itself. I had a genesis decide to try to have some fun with me the other day so I did some research and found this (a bit old but still)...

I thought I heard that the big DOHC V8 wouldn't fit under the hood of the small Genesis Coupe

but it's still ugly. I don't care if they put a 500HP engine in a minivan, I still wouldn't drive it. Hyundai still needs to get their designs up-to-par with most other American cars. But I'd really hate for the Camaro SS to be the second slowest out 4 in track tests.. Thanks Challenger R/T for not even putting up a fight But seriously, at least the torque # is much lower and higher in the RPM range than the Camaro, this will help us, but then again, the weight factor will hurt us.

All GM needs to do is offer factory options such as reduced weight seats, gears, and suspension and even with no engine upgrades at all we could win many more races. But I am sure they can eek out a few more HP from the LS3. The Vette has 430HP, so I am assuming whatever accessory that adds load in the Camaro that is not in the Vette can be replaced with Vette-like components to get the HP up at the crank... If GM does not WOW everybody with the 2012, I'm going to be pissed. Ford can do it, Dogde even does it to some extent with the color options and special editions. Hyundai is just going to thow a big engine in a crappy shell. Chevy did so much work with the design, they had better not lose on the performance-level due to complacence.

I think the difference is down to the exhaust. But really, its 4 hp on over 400 ... nobody will notice it.

Odds are, there will be all new V8's for the 2013 MY, so I doubt they'll invest much into the LS3 between now and then. And for the last 6 months or so, they've been out-selling the revamped Mustang, while offering less money on the hood ... GM doesn't have too many reasons to mess around with the Camaro.

You're right, it has been selling well. But it has only been on the market for just over a year. If this car is still competing with the Mustang in sales a year from now with no upgrades besides the interior, I am not sure that it will keep it's edge. Ford offers A LOT of customizations, and the people that can afford them will opt to get them and roll them into financing versus going to the after-market and voiding their warranty possibly. That's the major issue here, if there are cars that perform slightly better, or have more performance options, people will tend to lean towards the better performance car regardless of looks because lets be honest, you're not going to get a spectacular looking car unless you customize it anyway.

There are a lot of buyers out there that can only afford the base model w/o any upgrades, and these people may chose car X over Y because the base model performs and/or looks better for the money. I am one of those buyers. If the Mustang had summer tires, glass roof and the california package standard on the GT, I'd be driving it today instead of the Camaro, but the base Camaro 2SS had more for the money than the base GT Premium. So I went with it because it looked so much better and it performed about the same as the base Mustang GT. But trust me, not everybody is like me, there will always be a lot of people that are going to option out their GT and get the best of the best.

But sorry, off-topic. I just think Chevy needs to offer performance options to compete with the GT and Genesis. If you make the Camaro the obvious choice, it's a no-brainer who will win the sales race. Make the Camaro SS smoke the competition in 90% of cases and the Camaro will outsell the competion.

I would be really suprised it Nissan took that route with their Z car. The Z heratige has always been 6 cylinders.
240z = 2.4L Inline-6
260z = 2.6L Inline-6
280z = 2.8L Inline-6
300z = 3.0L V-6
350z = 3.5L V-6
370z = 3.7L V-6

There have been turbo versions of the Z cars. Specifically the 280Z Turbo and the 300ZX-TT. I would see them adding a turbo to the Z before they would ever go V-8. But you never know what's really going on behing the doors of the development offices.

I know they probably won't. But I would rather have a Z over a Genesis.

Nissan has now set up a scenario like Chevy has. They can't let the 3x0z rival the performance of the GTR. There will most likely never be a truly high performance Z. It's NOT a flagship sportscar anymore. I don't know why in the world they didn't make the GTR an Infinity?!
