New Toyota commercial seem suspicous to anyone else?

Has anyone seen the new Camry commercial claiming the Camry is so much cheaper to own "over time" than other sedans? This is supposed to be for insurance, gas and maintenence. Here are their "figures". 1000 less than Accord, 1600 less than Sonata, 3000 less than fusion, 5000 less than Malibu. I am sorry, this sounds like utter and total BS to me. Thoughts?

Do you have anything to refute their numbers?

Figures don't lie, but liars figure. There are a ton of variables that could go into that price. The biggest factor is probably insurance, when is the last time you heard of a Camry getting stolen?

Unfortunatly they don't post how they are getting their numbers, no real statistics. maintenence schedules and fuel milage generally go the Camry competitors and I don't see insurance being any less for a Camry than any other 4 cylinder sedan, so maybe they are comparing higher models with more features from the other brands to their base model? Maybe using everybody elses V6s against their 4 cylinder? Unfortunatly they put numbers that really seem made up out there and provide no proof.

Numbers can be produced to what ever outcome one desires.

Don't know about stolen, but 90% of the people I see doing stupid things in a car seem like are driving a Camry.

I thought the Camry was one of the most stolen vehicles...at least thats how I remember it.

As an owner of a 2000 Camry, I can say that all I've had to do in the last 10 years was, oil changes, brakes, new tires, new battery, and a repair on the exhaust flex pipe. It's been quite great so far, and these particular 4 cylinder engines in the gen3/gen4 Camry's have had 410,000kms on them according to the folks at Toyotanation.

I remember when I bought it I believe the 1986 Camry was on the top of the stolen cars list for 2000. The odd thing was "Who would want to steal a 1986 Camry"

Now in recent light, people don't feel safe in the Gen5/Gen6 Camry's and you have that to consider now with the whole gas pedal fiasco. Mine is still old fashioned and the throttle is attached mechanically and not electronically.

So to me to read a statement like what is said could apply in my case, but then again I don't have a 2000 Malibu to compare maintenance records to.

Get your flame suit ready! Anyways, that link might be where Toyota got their info. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is relatively comprehensive in their studies.. Toyota marginally outperforms some of its competition in most of the studies.

Am I right in the lower the number the better? If so a new new Malibu CRUSHES the Camry in all categories.

true...for the 2007-2009 range, the results are different in the other year ranges.

Any Camry made between 92 and 2001 (I think) is AOK in my book. They were simple, had one of the best 4 bangers ever, and didn't look a squashed ladybug. I don't believe for a second the new Camrys are NEAR as good as those older cars and in fact do not believe have any advantage over the rest of the midsize flock avail today.
