Focus RS? Sure they could. But who likes to brag about FWD performance?

I thought about the SHO, but from what I've heard, its performance is nothing to write home about. Roughly in line with a G8 GT or Charger R/T. Good, but not great. And not enough to fly cars and a team over to German, since Fords competitors could have easily send their own range topping models (that were priced comparably to the SHO) to beat it without much effort.

And that race was done explicitly to showcase the advantage of the ecoboost engine. It was about as fair as the Mini vs Porsche from a few months ago. Due to altitude, the naturally aspirated cars were getting about 2/3 the air they would normally get at sea level (and consequently, making dramatically less power) while the turbocharged Lincoln would have suffered minimal power loss. Try the same thing at the Nurburgring (1000-2000 feet above sea level) and those cars probably would have destroyed it.

I said Focus RS 500, pretty much THE best handling fwd car ever, and I think the future 400hp+ SVT version or modded SHO could hold its own on the ring, due to its huge and flat torque curve.

I do wish Ford did Ring testing like GM does since the Ring is the track in which all modern day performance cars are tested and ranked. The only domestic track that offers that many documented times is Laguna Secca, which was the track Ford used to develop the Boss and should be hard to beat in a factory car under $50k

^ After reading that article it looks like they did test the Focus RS 500 at the Ring, and said a 8 minute lap time is within reach. Is that something to brag about? idk I didn't look it up

Taken from the article
The development programme included a dedicated endurance test at the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany, where Ford TeamRS engineers were joined by three Ford-employed racing drivers working in shifts to complete 10,000km of non-stop driving, equivalent to competing in ten consecutive Nürburgring 24-hour races without a break.
“We wanted to be sure that serious enthusiasts could drive the Focus RS500 to the limit on track, without any concerns about the car’s stamina,” said Matthias Tonn, Focus RS500 Chief Programme Engineer. “This meant going beyond our standard test routines, and pushing the car to the edge of its performance envelope. After 500 non-stop laps of the Nürburgring, we are very confident of its durability and delighted at the way it performed, with an 8-minute lap time within reach”.

Advanced Front Wheel Drive Chassis

A key factor in the success of the latest generation Focus RS has been its advanced front wheel drive chassis, which combines a wider track, the unique ‘RevoKnuckle’ front suspension design and a Quaife helical limited slip differential to deliver responsive steering, outstanding traction and a minimum of unwanted torque steer.

The same chassis design has proved equally effective in handling the increased torque levels of the Focus RS500, and the specification is unchanged for this application, helping to retain the same sporting and responsive dynamic character which is central to the appeal of the acclaimed standard Focus RS.

Also apparently Evo just ran a 9.02 in their 5.0 that has the built motor(forged internals + ported heads) and procharger.

Ah yes, I think even the majority of the Mustang fans would rather forget that entire era.

Im talking about the regular GT. That's what some people seemed to be comparing it to. The GT500 can indeed run with the Corvette...
