a) They don't compete car for car, they compete in a single car line. You can't compare GM vs Porsche, you really need to compare GM versus all German made cars to really come close to having a line up for line up comparo.

b) Porsche's management screwed up huge-literally one of the worst screw ups by any management ever. The debacle where they tried to do a hostile overtaking on VW and VW did a Judo Flip and now owns Porsche is a LEGENDARY piece of mismanagement. It's actually studied in business school as a cautionary tale.

c) Porsche's seems to have pulled themselves out of their tailspin, but they had some real quality control issues with the 996's and first four years of Cayenne's. It gets worse if you go all the way back to the 914/924s. In fact, with the 996s Porsche looked to Toyota for help with cost cutting and got themselves in a mess with binned parts, etc. breaking a lot of loyalty.

So if you want to measure a boutique <5k a month unit manufacturer against GM as a whole, go ahead. I'd actually say (b) was worse for Porsche than 2009 was for GM.

*edit* I still want a GT3 though, and I always will. So I aint really knocking Porsche, just keepin' it real homiez.

Great Post

Can we get back to discussing the ZR1 vs 911 Turbo?

im not sure on the cost of the V8 swap as i dont really ask my dad prices when i go visit, i find that to be rude i can imagine its not cheap at all though
500 product run, and the car is more luxurious and refined than the zr1, while being a better performer. I still don't see where you're getting this whole "no comfort" barely street legal from, but whatever, continue to ignore the people who have actually driven the car.

I find it funny that I'm considered a traitor because I like Porsches. You're hilarious Cmicasa.

Oh, and Username, Car and Driver would beg to differ about the Turbo.

Motor Trend: ZR1 vs 911 Turbo

I'm trying this one more time ...

From here out, anyone who wants to talk about the GT2 RS, or the rest of the Porsche line up ... go right ahead. But don't do it hear, create another topic.

OH.. and aren't we all tired of hearing about how SHAREHOLDERS in a company got screwed??? The irony is that while people like U hate the Administration for supposedly trying to make everything FAIR.. U cry about things like GM stock becoming worthless.. as if the Shareholders, as INVESTORS, didn't realize that INVESTING is a risk in and of itself.

Yeah.. I love GM... and GM has made me thousands upon thousands of $$$$ over the years, but I, being an experienced and attentive investor, saw the writing on the wall in July of '08.. and SOLD SOLD SOLD. Not just GM either.

The America PUBLIC got screwed??? How so?? Even if GM didn't ever pay back it's loan... it saved the American people from an extra 1 Million+ on the AMERICAN unemployment lines, $50 Billion doesn't even come close to what that loss would have been.

What bewilders me is that people like U believe that the Federal Gov would have taken the money it gave to GM as a loan.. and sent it to U as a gift. They wouldn't have... they would have spent $10 Billion of it a month... on a war somewhere we don't need to be.

OH... U say they are already spending it on a war we don't need to be?
Too funny. this guy always tries to put a SPIN on any GM post that doesn't go his way

Where's the SPIN??? All I see is TRUTH .

SPIN would be some idiot coming into a ZR1 vs 911Turbo thread and trying to throw every Porsche he could into the mix and still coming up short... on cash and performance.

The 911 Turbo took on the ZR1 and LOST, then broke down:(

The 911 GT2 took on the ZR1 and LOST, then made the owner go home and ask what did the extra $100K buy him.

Face it. U need nothing short of a Veyron, CCX, Zonda F, S7, or Ultimate Aero to seal the deal on a ZR1... or with a good driver, a Z06. And U could buy both of them TWICE... THREE times, no Five times, NO TEN TIMES... with some of those cars I named

Funny thing is, you still don't know what car we're talking about when we say Porsche 911 gt2rs. This is why I said way back in the beginning, "lol, you need to do your research." I suggest you take that advice before you make yourself look any less informed than you already appear.

Oh, and this is way off topic, have you been reading DG's posts? Can we talk about the Turbo, and how it won one comparison, and lost one?

i think the one comparison it won was when it had a the PDK transmission. which really does shift better/quicker than any human being possibly could.

Sure...But I don't see why Porsche should be discredited for building a superior transmission
