Ambien CR Warning - "Sleep Driving Has Been Reported"

You know those medicine commercials where some slick voice mumbles how you may die if you take this stuff?

I heard this in the background of an Ambien CR commercial, and had to keep rewinding it, to make sure I heard it correctly.

I found the verbage on their website:

Quote:
Sleepwalking, and eating or driving while not fully awake, with amnesia for the event, have been reported.

If you experience any of these behaviors contact your provider immediately. In rare cases, sleep medicines may cause allergic reactions such as swelling of your tongue or throat, shortness of breath or more severe results. If you have an allergic reaction while using AMBIEN, contact your doctor immediately.
So if you wake up with a smashed car, and McDonalds fries all over the place, you may have had an adventure you'll never remember.

Unbelievable.

I thought about asking you if you had come across this yet.

One more thing to look for.

My father once was on a clinical test for a new blood pressure medicine, and one day he called from Elkhart Indiana wondering how he had got there. When he had left, he said he was going to get some milk. Beware those nasty little side effects.

That is NOT typical at all. Not saying that it can't occur, but most people will not have hang over effect. That's the advantage over older sleep medications. Gets in your system fast, gets out fast. CR releases 60% of it's medication immediately and the rest over over several hours. Duration of action of the original Ambien and Ambien CR are very similar. As long as you can devote about 7-8 hours to sleep you will be fine. If you can't then don't take it.

Sleep drugs are bad juju, just ask Michael Jackson and Anna Nicole Smith. They train your body to sleep on drugs instead of the natural sleep cycle. Then you need more, and more.... all while never addressing the underlying issue of why your not sleeping well. A good doc will help you figure our why not not sleeping well instead of drugging you up.

I've heard my doc on several occasions tell people that he and the other docs in the practice will not prescribe sleep drugs. They don't want to be responsible for you driving your car into a family minivan full of kids stopped at a red light, that you think is a dream.
