I don't see the Camaro winning any race assuming both cars are optioned equal and driven equal. Maybe a stripper Camaro with a GREAT driver and a M6 could take a power-everything equipped 5.0 with an auto, but that's about it. Wait until the weather gets cool in the fall. I bet you see these 5.0's rocking high 11's with nothing but drag radials on them.

I am in no way bashing GM or endorsing Ford, but I have to call it like I see it. GM had better do something quickly. There's a dealer near me selling a new 5.0 stick car with 3.55's for 31,680. It's candy metallic red too.
Actually the Camaro - bone stock- went 12.58 @110.30 MPH

The fastest times have come from the 3.31 and 3.55 geared 5.0s.

And you can't forget the auto 5.0 that went 12.57 bone stock. And all autos have 3.15 gear.

I am very interested to see what the 5.0s can do when the weather cools down. Should get very interesting.

I'm merging this with the Camaro-Mustang discussion.

He did not do that because he would be proved a liar then.

We all know the Mustang GT and Camaro SS are priced very similar to each other. The Mustang, however, has a longer options list compared to the Camaro.

The Mustang GT gives you the ability to have regular or track oriented brakes, 3 gearing options with a manual transmission, a backup camera, a screen based NAV system. The Camaro has none of that optional.
Nice, I wish I could have picked the gearing. I've heard alot of great things about the Track-Pac. Does this incorporate the brembos and steeper gears?

The track pack was an option on the 2010 GT. The track pack is standard on all 2011 GTs.

The brembo and gears are options themselves.

I think you still need to check a box for the Brembos, but I could be wrong.

Yes gears and brembos are different options.

I should have known. I was wrong once in February so I won't be wrong again for at least another year. LOL

So if the 5.0 and LS3 make similar numbers on the dyno, and latest one seen was identical hp and 10 lbs /torque diff (peak). I realise that our LS3 make more torque lower in the rev range however.. my question is....

with the gearing offered in the mustang would it feel as strong in the bottom as the LS3 or more perhaps? I know gearing makes a big difference but as it stands now will the 5.0 feel faster and more of a push in the seat to the average joe ? just curious
I owned a manual Camaro SS for over a year and I can tell you the 5.0 feels faster and smoother.

This is accurate for the manual.
It is to be noted you cannot order the brembo's when you do order an automatic 5.0.

No offense to you, but statements like this fuel the fire...feels faster is subjective. If you had time slips from both cars on the same night that would support the idea far better. ( of course those are subject to track prep, driver, etc so they aren't the ultimate end all be all either really. )

You are one of the few who has driven both, so your statement has merit, but feelings and hard numbers are two different things. I don't care about magazine tests, you tube videos, etc...I'm waiting to line up against an 11 GT at the track..not to whip it ass, or visa versa, but just to see how the heck these things run in the real world in the hands of the general public.

I personally think it's outstanding that Ford answered the bell with the 11 GT, love to see GM counter punch as well...this is a great time to be a muscle car owner. I also however feel that the blue oval crowd isn't paying the LS3 SS much respect, and I think that's a major insult.

Just my .02...carry on

I don't think you will find many who would argue with that reasoning.

BTW - here is a vid of a 2011 GT and new C6 Vette at the track last weekend.

Thanks....I'm not a huge fan of those vids simply because no one knows what's done to what car, driver skill level etc.

For what it's worth, I was out at the local strip with my SS Tuesday and was downing cars left and right as well. What does that prove...not a damn thing!

My buddy I work with has a 11' A6 GT that I have been begging to line up against me but he won't do it. To me, lining up against his car is a real world test that I'll be better to form my own take on the Stang. If he runs all over me, I'll say hell yes the Stang is bad ass. Otherwise I still stand by the statement that these cars are pretty darn close stock. Mod for mod would be interesting to see them lined up...5.0 makes good power, but so does the LS3.

In all honesty it's personal prefrence...from a performance aspect I really don't see how you can go wrong with either choice

I Love your attitude. I never raced my SS and I don't plan to race my 5.0 either. Both cars are fast and ferocious off the line when driven correctly. I love it that the muscle wars are back and in full stride once more. THe tables have been reveresed so to speak since back in the day, the 4th gen camaro was faster than the Mustang for a long time and now it is reversed.
