I love the new Hyundai cars. This is no exception. KIA is really stepping up their car game too.

Hyundai has come a long way since they first sold cars in America. I remember when they first came out. Many people said they were junk (I'm talking the owners here), and now they are world class. Still wouldn't buy one, but it is tempting now.

I've owned three Hyundais... all were decent cars. Well priced and lots of ammenities. Non really outclassed the competition, but all gave you more for the money.
NO major issues had a 00 Tiburon and 01 XG300L and an 05 XG350L. The resale on a Hyundai sucks. but if you are someone who buys a new car, and plans to drive it until the wheels fall off, then the Hyundai comes with a great warranty, and they are priced well. So it's a good buy.. But if you plan to trade up every 3 or 4 years, the resale is horrible.

The Genesis and Gen Coupe, the new Sonata, now the new Elantra, and then the new Equus (luxury flagship sedan).
Hyundai is not only competitive, but I'd argue they have some cars that are class leaders (Genesis and Sonata, soon to be Equus). |

I actually prefer Kias latest style over Hyundais. I love the new Forte Koup and the new Optima (which by the way will have the Sonatas drivetrains) looks to be an extremely sharp and upscale looking car. My brother and sister in law recently bought an 06.5 Optima (EX V6, leather, 6 disc CD, etc, etc) and it is very nice. And for 7k out the door (with 51k miles) it was a total steal. |

I remember the early ones...my friends dad had an 86 Hyundai Excell...and watching that thing deteriorate from day 1 was amazing. One time during a panic stop, the windshield actually FELL OUT OF THE CAR. NO JOKE.
With that said, their cars are more and more impressive every year, and I think they have become quite attractive.

The Elantra has some of the same styling cues as the new Sonata.
I drive 1-2 rental cars per week on business trips to DC and Baltimore. I've driven about every rental car National offers and recently had the opportunity to drive the 2011 Sonata. I was really impressed. So much so, I couldn't stop talking about it when I got home. I averaged 41MPG driving the beltway in DC with that DI 4-banger. In the heart of the city I was getting 21MPG in stop and go with the AC blasting. Very comfortable, modern, quiet, responsive and a sticker price of ~$20k. If I had to purchase an inexpensive fuel efficient daily driver for work - this would be it. My next fleet vehicle is the new Audi A3 TDI - I'm looking forward to it as an alternative to hybrid offerings with similar mileage. |
