One problem folks..you still pony up 41,000 for the thing..you get a tax CREDIT, not a rebate or discount. Even with the lease its alot of money for what is really an average looking and size car.

Will they sell? sure. Will they be popular? possibly, will they sell every one? hell no.

I will admit it has me interested. I could lease one while in med school to get the ridiculously low gas costs and whatnot. And 350 a month really isn't bad at all.

Ummmmmmmm, yes they will. You are under the mistaken belief that GM will simply go build XXX number of Volts. It will be like Corvette. GM could build twice as many buy does not by choice.

GM will adjust productio and pricing based on demand. That is why there are rebates and other incentives in the market.

Iowa isn't a launch market.

yeah thats not going to stop the media from comparing the two anyway but a 1st grader could even understand that. stop letting your emotions get to you man

Washington DC too.... Initial launch is in selected "environmentally conscious areas".. that means where all the tree huggers live and have the greatest potential for sales...

HEY! NY is on that list...and I don't associate with those...people.

I was thinking, though....the Volt, if leased, would be cheaper than a Camaro for me......hmmmmmmmm

Also, with a lease, worries about long term reliability don't matter

However if by having such a high price initially backfires sending those potential buyers away buying the competition....Then it would take those buyers of the competition many years before they buy another hybrid or all electric vehicle and by then, other automakers may have caught up with the Volt's technology or improved upon it. That is what happened to the X-box 360 and the PS3 gaming system battle. The X-Box 360 was released first with a huge head-start, however the PS3 improving upon that technology has since surpassed the 360 in sales and arguably has a more flexible and powerful gaming hardware. I am hoping GM does well and prospers with this Volt technology and makes the right decisions moving forward. So far I do not see such a high price at launch as being a right decision. I may be wrong, but I have my opinions being someone interested in buying one until I saw the price.
Just remember the prius lost money for toyota for a few model years before they recouped the loss. Currently, there is no other vehicle like the Volt on the market -- and if leasing, it's at very competitive price. Couple that to the fact they are slowly going to increase production year over year to keep interest and sales strong...I think it will be a huge success for the company.

Work has already begun on the next Volt, and if I recall correctly, one of the major goals of that project is to get the price down.

I am optimistic for its chances. It will not take over 50% of cars on the road, but it's no dud and will do what it was designed to from both a consumer and business standpoint.

It'll also provide a quick and easy way to jump into the next Volt, too. I have a feeling that, like smartphones...once you drive a Volt, you'll never want another car for a daily driver.

Is anyone in this thread that is defending this Edsel-in-waiting actually interested in buying a Volt? It seems obvious to me that some folks in this thread are saying what they are simply because the car is made by GM.

Personally, I still don't think the vast majority of Americans have any interest in electric cars, let alone one with such bland styling and such limited range.

?

I am very interested in buying one. In fact, it would be cheaper for me to lease one than buy a Camaro. Unfortunately, or fortunately (pick one) -- I'm more interested in buying a Camaro. And I think you would be surprised how many Americans would like a car like this.

As for styling -- its in the eye of the beholder, I think the Volt is sleek and sexy.

And for range -- 350 between fill- ups not enough for you? I'll get 300 in the Cobalt, on average...
