Always had great experience with Dell....Then our last desktop and laptop have been total nightmares! My laptop-Inspiron 1721-is on its THIRD hard drive in a year! All covered under warranty and I have gotten good at backing up data, but I am worried that this thing will be tossed the day after my warranty is up! Alienware is hte way to go if you have the $$, so far they don't seem to have been corrupted by Dell !

You guys keep talking about it and now I'm questioning it, please don't tell me an awesome computer company like alienware was bought out by Dell-ards. This website has gotten me waay behind on my knowledge of computers. You guys are right this site is like crack. Not that i would know what thats like...

I hated my Inspiron. It was the second-worst computer I've ever encountered. The worst was the HP Pavilion that my family used to own.

I got a Mac. It has never had a problem. I couldn't be happier with my computer.

I under the assumption that you can't squeeze alot of memory out of solid state drives
But memristors are coming. HP has built one. It's nonvolital, so can retain its state when powered off like current flash, but will also be cheaper and faster than flash while offering greater densities(smaller). They hope to introduce them by 2012 and may replace DRAM and hard disks in the 2014-2016 time frame. And, since it can remember the exact current that's passed through it (voltage level), it can work with a dynamic range of data, not just ones and zeros, like in an anolog mode, therefore capable of far more complex computing tasks.

Also, there are organic LEDs. Sony's 9" screen TV, around $2500, is only 1/8" thick. The future looks bright!

I hope dell doesn't Ruin Alienware... It was bad at first but seems to be a little better.

my only concern with Solid state is Data recovery. Is it true that if the drive fails there is no way to get the data back?
while alienware is a great company that makes serious power, (and trust me, I love their rigs) you are overpaying for their systems. half of your price is just buying the name Alienware. but if you have gold super member certification, roll with it...

what are you wanting in your computer? and how much are you looking to spend? (read....whats your max budget?) i'll build you one better than a store bought system for roughly the same price if not cheaper.

feel free to pm me tag. ive only been doing this for 7 years now...

as far as SSD's go, once the price goes down on them and they can bump the storage capacity up, they will overtake regular drives in most computers. kinda like how floppy's gave way to CD's. I have yet to test one out. but ive read comparisons of them and they are proving their worth. I will try a couple out depending on if I get my new gaming rig for christmas from my fiance or if I have to buy the rig myself after the first of the year.

HP has the best laptops in the world , I have been using mine for over 8 years now no problem I just bought a new HP laptop because my old one was getting too slow , it only ran at 800mhz but it still works great . My new one is a Compaq Presario 1440X 900 resolution 17"screen (HP and COMPAQ are the same company either one is good) ,Altec Lansing speakers, 250gig hard drive 3gig ram with a Centrino Duo running at 1.83 Ghz each and I love it , makes surfing the web much more fun then my ancient one lol
