I posted my greeting here because I saw that as the trend, and actually did not see the OT forum.

Maybe put the Greeting area at the Top?

The way I have my Forums set up is that a new user recieves a Welcome email after they register which this site does. However under the greeting is a line "Please come and introduce your self here" with the URL.

There is also an auto PM sent to New users asking them to introduce them selves in a specific url..... Some people do not read any emails after their verification email.

My understanding is this:

A thread "I just got a New Camaro...here are some pictures" would go in General Camaro Area.

A thread "I love Bacon" would go in OffTopic.

A thread with pictures of a 2013 Z-28 would go in the spyshots area.

I apologize if I have breached any protocols.

It's cool dude. No one's gonna be mad at ya

If you don't know where to post your new topic, then just post it wherever you think it goes. If you were wrong then the mods will take care of it. Thats what they're here for.

And even when they do move a thread don't get upset. It's nothing personal and they aren't silently scolding you for posting in the wrong section. They're just doing their job to try and keep this site as organized as possible. Besides, even when it is moved it still shows up in the original section you posted in.

No worries

Thanks! As I said I am very familiar with the software this site runs on. They leave a redirect which can be permanent or expiring. I did not mind getting my thread moved.... I just thought I would make some suggestions for flow so the Mods did not have to move so many threads.

Yea I hear ya. There's a response I posted earlier with a link to the suggestion section for the mods. I imagine they frequent that area often and you would probably get the best results in there.

You mentioned earlier that you're a mod on another site, I've always been curious though...

How does one actually become a moderator??

I Own two sites and Mod two others. It is different on all forums. Some will post a thread stating they are looking for Moderators..and you apply with in. (your posting history and activity is reviewed). Some will only use people they personally know or are recommended by another moderator... It varies...

All boards have an area we do not see. Only Moderators or Admins can see it or access it. The voting/discussion/nominating goes on there.

On one of the boards I just sent a PM to the Admin stating if they ever needed a mod I had experience and was available. He mad me a mod the next day.

This is a large board with a lot of activity. If you are an active member and enjoy the posting and replying you may not want to be a Mod... It can become work at times. Or you could get stuck moderating a not so fun area depending on how the work load is distributed.

The physical promotion is easy. The Admin goes to the ACP or your profile and changes your user group. These boards are vBulletin probably in the 3.X version area... Cant be exact since this is the Branding free package.

The site staff realizes that we need help, then we discuss who would be suitable in mods only section. Once we come to a general agreement, one or two members get asked and if they accept, we've got new mods.

I'm assuming this was originally in 5th Gen General.

Posting a suggestion in the Announcements/Suggestions/Feedback/Questions area will never go un-noticed by the staff. However, we might miss it if it its posted in the wrong area.

As for other instances of posting in the wrong section ... sometimes people don't quite put something in the best area, off topic vs other cars for example. But intentionally putting something in the wrong area just to get more views is irritating. If we wanted everything in 5th gen general, there wouldn't be any other sections. But we have that for 5th gen discussions that do not primarily involve:
  • The Z28
  • Pictures and videos
  • Ordering, pricing, and related topics
  • Camaro5 Fest
  • Comparing the 5th gen Camaro against some other car
  • a journal about your Camaro experience/plans/builds
  • region specific discussions
  • the engines
  • forced induction
  • the transmissions
  • tuning
  • mechanical maintenance
  • wheels and tires
  • suspension and brakes
  • in car electronics
  • cosmetic mods
  • cosmetic maintenance
  • Camaro racing and driving techniques
  • problems with the car
  • DIY and how to
  • selling items as a sponsor
  • selling items as a member
  • reviewing a vendor
  • buying Camaro5.com merchandise
  • talking about 4th gen Camaros
  • talking about 3rd gen Camaros
  • talking about 1st or 2nd gen Camaros
  • general automotive or other cars
  • off topic items (including sports)
  • suggestions/feedback/questions for the site staff
If it doesn't seem to fit into any of those areas very well, then post it in 5th Gen General.
