Blur, gtahvit, perhaps you should combine your efforts:

"Dear Sir.

I respectfully ask, what the &*%# are you thinking? Although you have done many things to help both the people from your state as well as America as a whole, this is perhaps the stupidest thing you have ever said. etc

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!

^ No but he just sent me this email...

Dear Mr. *******:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the proposed bailout of the auto industry.

Last year, I cosponsored legislation passed by Congress that raises corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards to 35 miles-per-gallon by 2020, and provides grants to help car companies retool their factories to meet this requirement (P.L.110-140). I believe that we should further raise CAFE standards to 40 miles-per-gallon and provide tax incentives to consumers to encourage them to purchase more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Unfortunately, American auto companies have resisted increased CAFE standards for years. Now, with the price of gas so volatile, they find themselves at a competitive disadvantage because their fleet is less fuel-efficient than foreign competitors. While I understand the importance of helping the American auto industry, I believe that any assistance they receive from the government should be designed to help them compete more strongly on their own.

Thank you again for contacting me about this issue, and please do not hesitate to share your views with me in the future.
This idiot is so clueless. GM has the highest fleet average MPG of any car company in the world!!!!! I hope this moron learned something during the hearings.

^What a Dick! I hope Blur got through to him, nice try tho GTAhVIT. Eight years ago i didn't want a fuel efficient car and neither did the rest fo america. Which is one of the reasons why automotive manufacturers resisted cafe. Does he think the government should force these vehicles down our throats, becuase i wont have it. GM built cars and trucks that were being demanded, PERIOD. Now over a period of 5-6 years the american economy has changed its views and the government thinks that GM should have been prepared for it. No company could have been prepared for it. How the hell were they supposed to know that the government would go downhill in 6 years and take the rest of the economy with it.

I will be contacting the Senator's office again in the near future. I know this is an off-topic request, but can we post some standards that I can cite when arguing with his office? I'm going to research some of the competition's numbers.

EDIT: I found this. It should help.

Looks Identical to the answer he sent me..... Canned response. They have software that autoreplies based on the topic you select in the webmail form...

Cool huh. Our politicians taking the time to have software reply to our inquiries...

Our tax dollars at work.

It could be that he's busy. It sounds like he wouldn't miss the roast of the auto industry for anything. That's okay. If enough of us send him messages, he will budge. Politics is a game for the strong-willed. We will persevere. Keep the faith.

You can give him the benefit of the doubt if you wish.

I've been applying pressure to this guy since I moved here. And this is all I've ever gotten from him. I've pinged him on Gov spending, taxes, Military Base closures, Military affairs, war spending, border security. And every time I get the auto reply with the same, "thank you for asking about..... My position on this issue is ........... And by the way sign up for my newsletter."

I'm pretty sure GM has more fuel efficient vehicles than any other manufacturer. What a moron.

Y'all should check out the new Chevy Gas Fairy! He's promoting the new lineup of fuel-efficient vehicles from the General.
