I personally feel that the ZR1 is the best performance car GM has to offer; in essence it's a street legal "supercar". The ZR1 is a supercar-eater; that's how great it's performance is. I really wouldn't count the time around the ring against the ACR and GT2 as a lost because, as many have stated, they're 2 both different kind of cars,...stripped down, and uncomfortable. They're straight race cars. Let's see how the ZR1 would do if you also stripped it down to the same liking as the other cars.
I've seen track videos of the ZR1 the car is godly and amazing lol, but yes, check out it's performance in those corners,....a wild man! lol. It's looks bad ass as hell, but performance wise spinning out the tires in the corners = wasted time. If Chevy could some how redefine it's supsension and grip,...this car would be second to none. The ZR1 sure doesn't lack any power or weight, it's light enough, but controlling all of that power is the key to better times. If I had 2 complaints about the ZR1, it would be one, I dont have one, and two, the corners get wild. Other than that it's a ridiculous car. Well,....let me think about it,...the ZR1's interior seems blah. Sure it has a HUD which = cool, but other than that it seems boring. Now if Chevy can make the inside of a ZR1 look like the inside of an ASTON MARTIN,......OMG. I'd have a new love. Astons are the James Bond cars of the industry. They're what a "luxury" Zr1 would look like, amazing cars, very similar curves too.

Well from the OP's point of view (which is me)- for the sake of the discussion just assume the drivers and track conditions are equal. As someone pointed out, the videos of the ZR1 show that it's a little hairy around those corners.
I don't want to get into an interior debate because those always end up just sidetracking threads. As far as the tires go, I thought they were all running the Pilot Sport Cup tires around the track. Would you want a big wing on the back if it gained the 'vette 9 seconds on the 'ring? (even if you never get to drive there- just so you can have the bragging rights?) |

Owning any of these 3 cars is a win in my book. Porsche, Viper or ZR1. "Ring" numbers are for manufacturers bragging rights and internet forum arguements.

...So I guess my first question is: do you think I'm right? Would a rear wing, splitters, and a flat underside with a rear diffuser pick up 9-10 seconds? Do you think bumping the ZR1 to 700hp would be enough on it's own? My personal opinion is the HP alone wouldn't be enough at this level, but I'd like to hear what you think.
My second question is: would it be worth it to you? The ZR1 is very clean looking because it doesn't have big wings and splitters. Would bragging rights on a track in another country make it worth it to you for Chevy to add these things? Even if very well done, it would still be a significant change to the overall look of the car.[/QUOTE] answer1: yes. at the speeds these cars can attain... aero is everything. the zr1 still has lift... just less lift than all other vettes. the underside is damned flat. i have an 09' zr1. i've been all over the car. i've had it to the track. the bs you read about "hard to handle" is crap. i've driven many cars on the track... you just have to learn to use the power. if you want to just stomp the throttle outta turns... get something with less power. answer2: no. i don't mind being 2nd fiddle to track only cars. i drive my vette daily and a big chunk of the reason i like it more than the other 2... i can take a 7000 mile coast to coast road trip and stop off at the track on the way home, drive the crap outta it, then drive home. (yes... i did this) the other 2 i'd put slicks on them and trailer them. the vette has run flats... i've got a flat right now... still drove it to work... whoopty f'n do my track times are a sec slower/lap... i'm not a pro.... that's the beauty of it all.... the zr1 can perform track duty during the day and a beautiful night out dining with the old lady. it's perfect for ME. |
