I voted option 3, "no" though I don't think more bad than good would come from it. I just don't think any good would come from it. Once the officer pulls a young driver over and sees they're in this graduated phase, he could do whatever he would have done for a "stickered" driver at that point. All this would do would identify young drivers to other drivers in the way that "STUDENT DRIVER" stickers do - and I've never found that those affect how other motorists drive anyway.

Thats not discrimination at all. Why identify black people by their plates? Arabs? sex offenders? DUI offenders? young black drivers? ect ect.Its just a bad idea all around.

As soon as an officer asks for his/her driver license they will know how old the driver is and all the specs that goes with it. So that is a moot point. The sticker would be more effective for other drivers on the road than for an officer.

I think it's more skill level than anything else. if a 35 yr old finally got his/her license that late in age, they would be required to have it also, since they are a new driver.

No. What purpose is it going to serve?
One more sign/posting/notice we have to look out for? Forgive me, but this will only distract other drivers and possibly lead to some immature older drivers harassing them on the road. Very dangerous to be ID'ing drivers in any way (age, sex, race, etc) on the road. Bad Idea. Good Idea: EDUCATE YOUNGER DRIVERS BETTER!!! None of this "if you pass a written test you can drive" crap. Mandate a course that includes significant (25 hours or more) behind-the-wheel time to get their permit at 16. Then continue their education with an advanced drivers course at age 17 to correct any poor habits the student drivers have fallen into. License the kids if passed (AT 85%, not 60!!) and go on to a happier, safer roadway. And force seniors over the age of 75 to get re-evaluated for physical and mental ability to drive. Offer a free-of-charge skills-correction course that, if failed, will revoke their license until earned back by passing a 5-hour skills course. /mini-rant...I hate the feel-good laws and propositions surrounding driving. Just teach them better and they'll be fine. |

We may know they are young drivers by their plate, but that still doesn't change the fact that it is a young driver driving the car. They just need more indepth real world training IMO>...
