most 07+ GTs weigh in at 3550. the 05 and 06 were lighter at 3450.

wonder where you got that figure. couldn't find it when i configured mine... must of added glass roof, auto, just about everything? which, if that is the case, and you add sunroof and just about everything will push the camaro over the two ton mark?
guess we'll have to wait and configure online, or wait for build sheets... still a ways to go. we'll see if we can get a weight figure for the mustang nov 19th when the 2010 is revealed |

anywho, i can understand that the mustang has been around for a while. And for long time it was on my list, its a very fun car. Its just not a very good car... its not very well built, i can remember being in them and all kinds of things rattling and moving which i doubt were ment to move. That being said, i do like the mustangs, however id be suprised if they weren't thoroughly outclassed by the Camaro. Its going to have superior stock performance, it will be a better built/quality car, and it will have more to relate to the average person. like boston acustics, HALO headlights, a better and more 'attention to detail' driven interior and... IRS isnt better for drag... but how many people are going to do drag with their cars? probaly .01% of everyone who buys one, as aposed to the 100% of people who will enjoy the handling of the IRS. The mustang is a fun car that will always be around. But it will need to pull something really great out of the bag in order to hang 9 rounds with the new camaro. A 2005 Mustang GT weighs about 3540lb in base trim according to Ford. Add a little less than 100lb to that, which is about what the 2011 will gain, and you are sitting within sniffing distance of 3600lb. Real world, were looking at 300lb of difference between these two cars. And since a loaded Camaro 2SS coupe can easily top 40k, and by no small margin, I have to wonder what a loaded 2SS vert will cost. Realistically we are probably talking about a number very close to 50k. |

I don't think he's really trolling at all to be honest. Which I give him props for in the sea of personal attacks in this thread.

Camaro is better than Mustang.

You could have just said that in the beginning and made this a lot easier on everybody.

That was a bit uncalled for. You not liking what I have to say hardly makes me a troll. The sad part of all of this is that, while I'm obviously a Mustang guy, the reason I'm here is because....a: I'm glad the Camaro is back since both bench racing and actual racing are a lot less interesting with V6 Eclipses, Tiburons, and Honda Civics. b: I'm interested in how the Camaro will stack up against the 2011 Mustangs, and I threw in some Mustang info because I figured some Chevy guys might be interested in what Ford has up their sleeve for 2011 for that same reason. Of course, as with all forums you get those who instantly slam everybody who isn't a strict devotee. But that is hardly a surprise and I expected the same. My hope is that there are some how gleaned something from what I have had to say. I have been careful to keep what I expect of the 2011 Mustang separate in an effort to make certain that everything I have reported as rock solid is exactly that. I've also been careful not to insult the Camaro since, as a group, this is your house. As a Ford guy I've heard virtually every disparaging joke about GM and/or the Camaro you can imagine. I wouldn't go into another guys house and make fun of his wife's cooking, and I'm not going to come on your forum and trash your car. That is what Mustang forums are for. ![]() As for the info I've given, part of the reason I find the 2011 Mustang-5th gen Camaro comparison as interesting as I do is because of how close the power to weight ratios appear likely to be. When I take what I personally expect of the 2011 Mustang GT (read: NOT rock solid) given everything I know...I believe we are going to see a car which produces 415-425hp, 370-380lb-ft of torque, and which weighs somewhere between 3600-3650lb in base V8 trim with a 6-speed manual. FIgure power to weight on that and the Camaro and you come up with a very close comparison....and that should make for a very interesting 2011MY. |
