Mythbusters proved we were there, if thats what you mean. The flag waving w/o friction was the biggest proof they made on their own. And apparently someone was nice enough to leave behind a reflector on the moon that we could bounce a laser off of if anyone doubted it.

Reason we don't go now despite knowing what we do is b/c the first time around was gamble after gamble; Apollo 13 proved that. We'd rather not use anything from Apollo and do it again from the ground up if given the opportunity.

Space exploration I think could pick up if we could get private industry involved. One big example is refining. You know how easy it can be to refine metals in zero g? Or maybe send large unmanned vehicles to the asteroid belt to mine metals we consider rare? If there was a profit to be made, I'm sure space exploration wouldn't be such a struggle. Yes there will be a hefty investment involved and the current CEO or what-not may not see any returns, but their successor will. Governments just have too many responsibilities placed upon them to give their space programs a generous budget.

A shame whats happened to the space program since Kennedy/Johnson, but I suppose without a reason to compete or to explore, many in power find it unimportant. Social programs are more important than science in the case of the current administration.

My input in this may be a bit biased since both my grandfathers were with NASA during Apollo and one with with them during the beginning of space shuttle.

Yeah, that's what I meant. That was the best episode by far. The left almost nothing up in the air and the reflector left behind was the ultimate middle finger to the conspiracy theory.

The public space program is just a PR movement. the important people already know who and what is there. They have all that information. exactly, they want something a bit more proven and safe this time around.... but i REALLY wish we could get away from this tiny little capsule design... so primitive.

Another point on refining metals in low grav: I believe refiners would be able to get more oxygen OUT of the alloy, making it much more pure than can be achieved on Earth. Could lead to some VERY nice building materials.

noticed the book has 1 rating, was that you? Seriously dude, I DO believe in life outside of this planet, I do (you'd have to be pretty ignorant to think that there can't be ANY other life in the galaxy). But saying that they've set up shop on the moon is a bit much You know, the average person has these things called TELESCOPES that can see the surface of the moon. I think we'd notice if there were some alien civilizations popping up.

Now, all that being said, I don't believe everything the government tells me, nor everything the media tells me, nor everything that some random author tells me. If I ever spotted this guy signing book(s) at Barnes and Noble, I would definitely rush out to buy some tin foil to make him a hat

Thanks for at least being open minded. We are kept pretty much sheltered away from any radical information. The moon to me is small potatoes. Secondly, if you do further research, there is a movie online showing the moon in the actual color it was filmed in. the moon has all kinds of colors. this person has investigated the moon, and put together a modern documentary using the Clementine moon mission data and has lots of new detailed information. the movie is called "Moon Rising". Finally got a chance to check out the video, it was pretty cool, brought up some good points. I've always thought that NASA needs to be somehow protected from the changes in policy every 4 years. Politicians are too short sited to let NASA do its thing.

At the same time, I fully support nurturing our new commercial space race. These companies will eventually be able to do things that the government agencies can't.

I didn't mean for this to be a space debate... there are always people who would rather give the money to poor people instead of research and science. I am an engineer, so you can guess where I stand on the matter.


Alabama is a pretty big player in the space program... so it will affect a ton of jobs here... mine being one of them.
