I have seen the onstar work during a special breaking news car chase in Dallas. Took them a bit but you see the car loose power then stop. Aint technology great? After visiting the drag strip I half expected the onstar to come on to inform me I just voided my warranty for racing.. I doubt that day is to far off either.

The real problem with trying to put that in use out on our roadways, is gonna be controlling the focus of the pulse and shielding the vehicle(s) involved in the chase....

Can't see it happening really. All it would take is for it to go wrong one time, cause loss of control for a soccer mom with a carload of kids and injure/kill one of them and it is all over....

Sounds great.....in the correct hands. As with all technology it just takes one right wing group of nutjobs to screw it up for us all.

I want a handheld magnet gun! I'd point it at all of the idiots texting, reading the newspaper, doing their hair/makeup,and just not paying attention while they are driving.......

You got that right!

Really? voding a warranty for just going 120mph?!
Thats complete BS. If my dealer told me that, id go find another dealer.
Thats not right.
Ive gone 170km/h, my dealer better not start with me lol

A car's computer DOES log EVERYTHING you do. Insurance companies and lawyers have been using this data for years in court cases. Just last year a cop was in court for killing a driver after he ran a stopsign. The courts showed car computer evidence that he hit the gas hard before he impacted with the other car. They showed how fast he was going, engine RPMs, engine temp and braking AFTER the crash. He had no lights or sirens on at the time either. He was convicted using this evidence......

Why would that void the warranty? was the car previously electronically limited to 118 mph or something.

I guess I don't see how they could void the warranty unless it was published somewhere beforehand for the owner to read.

His car was completly stock, dunno what the limiter is set to....I guess the mechanic reset it for him and performed the work anyhow

And it could be in all that 2pt writing in the "limited warranty" at the bottom of the page saying driving over Xmph will void the warranty

Two trips to the drag strip, two emails from onstar telling me that they detected low air in the rear tires 25 lbs. When I said this on the forum all of the aluminum foil hat jokes started. They probably detected a dozen 110 mph speeds those two nights too.

This will work at first, but the smart(er) criminals will figure out all they have to do is apply the same shielding techniques that're used in several different types of electrical devices to the important electrical components of their vehicle. Take a look at "Faraday Cage" on wikipedia

And how long until the 'crooks' all have these devices for themselves?
