Looking at the sheet offered here and the order sheet for the new 2011 shows that the Brembos, and the gearing options are only avalible for the manual cars. Gears are for the coupes only. The wheels and tires show a 19x9 if you get the optional brake upgrade, 18x8 if not. The upgraded wheels and tires are summer options, probably the same as the Brembos, straight from the GT500. The gearing between the two autos are not a big difference, but there is a pretty good one on the two manuals. My estimate for the increase of weight for the optional brakes and wheels is going to be around 50lbs. Not much of a overall weight gain, but a rotational weight gain. The SS has the same problem with the rotaional weight of rims and tires. With the 255 summer options, and the 3.75 gearing the new GT will have the same problem hooking up as the GT500. They are going to need bigger shoes.

You wouldn't happen to live IN waynesboro would you lol? I remember when my parents bought a new H2, then a couple days later someone at a restaurant (where all the old people go) said we got it because it was a drug dealing, crack vehicle. My dad's roofing business showed a big loss of jobs the month we got it, and it's weird how many people ask how we do so well up here at our motel (almost all usually start the question with "With that H2, new Camaro, etc.) It's amazing at the things people try to entertain themselves with in these small towns.

What I am referring to is the actuall transmission gearing that seems to be wuite a bit moreaggresive in the Mustang, Anywho, on the 1/4 mile track is where that live axle is going to be a better option than the IRS in the other ponies. It keeps both wheels planted on the smooth surface and is less prone to wheelhop issues. Launching a car with whatever tires is a matter of practice and learning that particular car. I used to could get 2.0 60 fts in my FWD modified GTP Grand Prix on cheap 225 wide all season 16s. |

My 2011 Mustang Quest continued haha.
Yes, I am planning to get one still and am still considering colors. So far I want a base model with 3.73s as the only option. The first thing I am working out is colors. Now, I had a lot of good suggestions in the other thread. I have also been looking at different add-ons such as rimes, etc. One thought. A black GT with these rims in the 18 x 9.5 size

Well stew if you look at my Car domain link, you will see my rims. They are Shelby Torq Thrust heritages, (basically the ones from 65 redone) in 20's. They make them in the size you want, you can also get them in a blacken Gunmetal finish. Nice rim, not heavy, and the best thing is they are wide.

I was as well. The transmission gearing between the autos is almost the same. The manuals are the ones that have a larger difference. I wont argue that its easier to launch a SRA then a IRS. I have a S10 Blazer with a V8 that is great for the 1/4. With the low gearing, more hp, and smaller tires its going to be harder than you think to launch the 2011. The GT500 roast the tires off the car, and has been proven when going up a few sizes in tires makes a hell of a difference. It will be the same for the new GT. |

Those would look good, and would be able to put some really wide tires on there to help out with the Mustangs new found power. Im hoping I can fit a set of TSW Croft rims in the same size on the SS.

That would good, and there is nothing like the visuals of a nice wide tire on a pony car.

Yeah have a 383 stroker in mine with 275 drag radials and it just burns the things down!!! Your right its not as bad as the GT500, but still think its gonna be a similar problem.

I'm going to try to make a semi-obvious point here. At least in 'track-pack' or whatever form, I absolutely guarantee you that the Ford engineers have beating a 2010 Camaro as a design goal. To the point that someone's head will roll if they don't.
So I'm sure the tire size has come up as part of that engineering process and has been taken into account. *edit* and I'm sure the next Camaro redesign will be right back-at-ya to Ford. |
