As for going NASCAR racing, honestly you should check around at some amateur NASCAR forums, what I've shown here is about the extent of my knowledge. I known theres like the Whelan All American series ( http://localracing.nascar.com/series/3 ) which is like a junior NASCAR before you'd move up to ARCA, thats where you need to start. Check out the Forums there maybe you can find someone who can point you in the right direction to start the Whelan series.

If you want to be a NASCAR driver (and youre hell bent on not buying a Kart) , after youve done Skip Barber, this is where your money is best spent. Anything else is a waste.

Alright thanks, I will definitely look into it. One more thing though, before I were to actually race with skip barber, how much does it cost to take the classes? And which ones are necessary? I mean, obviously they offer some that probably aren't necessary.

Also what do you think about this (race with skip barber for a season, jetta tdi cup for a season, whichever amateur stock car series I choose, ARCA, NASCAR)?

The prices vary depending on track and date, but usually between $3500 and $4000 for the 3 day racing school. Sometimes they have specials to save you a few bucks. You need that to get a license. After that I reccomend the 2 day advanced school which is between $2900-$3400 (sometimes less) and gets you used to the cars they use in the race series which have adjustable Wings. Also I reccomend some one day lapping sessions for practice they are around $1100 each. From the looks of things it seems the insurance rate went up so its $125 a day to limit your damage deductable to $2000 max.

Your path choice sounds like a good idea, you may even be able to go straight from TDI cup to ARCA. I wish you luck!

And what's an eyeball figure for TDI?

Well years ago when I was gonna do it I estimated about $20 grand, however now I'd say maybe closer to $30 grand.

TDi I have no clue you'd have to check there probably like $50k-100k.

As for ARCA, it depends. ARCA has a lot of privateers, so if you have the money you can be one and buy a car. But theres also plenty of teams that field ARCA cars as well, so you may be able to hook up with a team and sponsor, assuming you perform well enough in TDi, and you are a good business man at getting sponsors.

Thanks, it doesn't sound that bad. Well, except for TDi, but you say that you don't have a clue, so hopefully it's going to be cheaper.

Too bad colleges/unis don't invest in car racing, and it's too late for me to get into professional football.

Yeah the only college program you could get into that involves racing is Formula SAE and thats only in certain engineering schools, and more about the car building than the actual driving.

Exactly, my school actually takes a part in it, but after spending a month in there as a freshman, a few years ago, I said screw it. It's nothing interesting, just about building some cars, that have nothing to do with racing (if I'm not mistaken they can only go about 70 mph).

What school do you go to?

A friend of mine whos a racer did it too but same thing, while he enjoyed the engineering ad driving a bit, its less about racing and more about car building.

I'd just rather keep that personal...I'll put it this way, I'm not happy where I'm at and cannot wait to transfer out (It's a private school though)

BTW I just saw Skip Barber posted on their Facebook, Race weekends are $2999, so theoretically youd spend $30k for 10 races before travel and stuff. I am not sure how many races are in the championship, maybe its less than 10, you'd really have to check with them.

True...true. I'll have to look into it though, over the summer or so, when I'll be free.
