I disagree. HD is built in US. When HD was AMF (pre 1981) I would agree most parts came from Japan with assembly in US but in 1981 AMF became wholly owned by HD, Japanese parts were used up and manufactured in US. I owned the 1981 Milwaukee addition to commemorate the sale back to HD, it was to say the least a mut with a mix of both Japanese parts and US.

No Harley is made in Japan -- they have four manufacturing facilities: 2 in Wisconsin, one in Missouri, and one in Pennsylvania. The V-Rod is produced in Kansas city, and was introduced in 2002 with a price of Approximately $17k. Now in 2009, it goes for $14,999. Look what you did...you made me learn stuff. ![]() Take your hate elsewhere. |

I have an 03 Softail and since have ridden a V-Rod...if I had to do it over, I would have bought the V-Rod. Smooth, powerful, corners like a dream, and the new Muscle looks BAD!

Some of the individual parts are manufactured over seas, but the majority of them are made here in the USA. Its a global market and it works better that way.
The Showa forks are made in Japan. The inverted Ceriani forks are made in Italy. The starters are Hitachi.(Japan) I heard tell that the electronics use to be Japanese made but not anymore. The frame, engine, trans, and most of the other parts are US made. I've ridden Harleys for over 20 years and don't want to go back to the Prestolite starters or the inferior front forks of yesteryear. I'm OK with the few foreign parts on my Harleys.

The Japs just build some things better. HD learned to get over that after the AMF days. And why HD is a better company today. They went and learned how the Japs could build such reliable engines on the cheap. Now someone will surly note, I posted carb parts. The Jap build better carbs, why HD uses em. And many other parts on an assmebled in the US HD, will have stamped on them "Made in Japan". [unless 100% of all parts are made on US soil, its only assembled here.] It just funny how defensive some get over it, so I poke to see who jumps. - So what color V-rod you gonna get? Silver or Passion Pink ![]() I kid, I kid........... |

I believe all Harleys come with fuel injection now that is a Delphi unit(US?). The V-Rods were always fuel injected.

I own a VRod and love it. It's not the best touring bike you could get, as it would need a large windshield to make long rides comfortable. But a large windshield would make it look kinda dorky.
It is fast as SH#$. Yes there are crotch rockets that are probably faster, but you can certainly hold your own if you wanted. I like it because it also has a little class. It's fast and it's cool. Die hard Harley guys are sometimes haters because it's a v-twin engine, but to them I say, 'hey, at least it isn't a Yamaha!" I have the 2003 Anniversary edition. I love the all aluminum look!

Quoted for truth. HD quit using carbs in 06, IIRC. That was the last year you could get a carb'd HD. 07 all went FI. VRods have always been injected and water cooled, which is why some HD old schoolers don't like them. They are the most powerful HD motors, without going SE, put in HD frame rails. They are something like 125hp. I've ridden the B and C versions, the B bieng the rearset pegs, slightly taller version, made more for corning. The C, like the A and the Monster, are forward control bikes. I liked both of them. Not my style, as my Night Train, then Road King and now Road Glide were easier on my eyes. Not only that, but the King and Glide handle like there is no tomorrow!! The VRods are beasts, beating some other muscle cruisers in h2h competitions multiple times. I'd call them the Camaro of the V Twin muscle cruiser world. |
