D@MN PQ, that's HORRIBLE!

But I am in the same boat as you. I normally drive about 20 over or so, on the e-ways. But when I was first taking my car too and from school, I would be going 100+ most of the way, but not anymore! Too many tickets in too little time!

Being ticketed for 6 over is pathetic. I have NEVER written for anything less than 15 on the freeways and 10 on surface streets.

That officer is a confirmed a-hole if what you said is correct.

Also be aware that in most states there is no points (fine only) if within a specified mph. In Michigan, I usually write 60 in a 55 with true speed in the remarks. That way, no points, but if they fight it, I have their 81 in a 55 noted.
Why couldn't you be the officers that pulled me over for my 3 tickets!?
Become a cop in IL!!!

Well, when people are going faster than 20 over the limit, I say sort of the same thing...I will ask "what is the emergency" or ask if they are related to Mario Andretti. A manner to be sarchastic, yet relative. 6 over and asking what is the emergency? The officer was probably absued as a kid, bullied or just new. When I make comments similar to that...understand that I do not stop people for anything less than 20 over and say that. I will cite them for 5 over depending on conditions or any other asenine driving I see other than the speeding. To say something sarchastic and write for the full 75 in a 55 is being a plain old dick. 60/55 citation if going faster than 20 over is appropriate.

Last night I stopped a lady in a 2007 SS truck. Paced her in a 55 doing 82. I hit my spotlight on her rearview and moved over to the center lane and pulled along side as she slowed to 55 and she seen me. We split off on a transition zone and she went her way, I went mine. As I paralleled where she was going, I had the option to reenter the same freeway I just left and observed her jacking up the speed as I was doing 60 and she was pulling away. Anyhow, I got behind her again (her thinking I was gone) and paced her at 83 in a 55...So I stop her and she proceeds to tell me her speedometer is broken, (actually TPMS sensor on the display she shows me) and says the speedo is malfunctioning because the electronics are bad. I proceeded to inform her that the speedometer is mechanical but will waive the ticket if she had an authorized Chevy dealer perform a speedo diagnostic. She then tells me that I had better things to do being a Detroit cop...Hmmm. Shoulda wrote her for the 83 in a 55.

Anyhow, 6 over is nothing. Most officers observe the "margin of error" in speedos at 5 mph and usually will cite over 10-15 depending on traffic/conditions. I myself do not bother with 10-15 over unless they are driving liks a holes, blowing lights, cutting people off, etc. Some officers are just dicks.

You also have to account for end of month ticket quotas. Worst time to speed is the last 5 days of the month...no matter what speed you are doing...especially with out of state plates.

I say fight it...seriously. I have successfully fought out of state tickets and am 3 for 3.
Wow, 2 of my tickets were for 17-18 over, one expressway, one street, but it was RIGHT at the change from 45 to 30... the other was 15 over... The 2 18 overs, as soon as I handed them my license, which says Chicago, the cops completely changed their attitude! And all 3 of my tickets were in IL... The 15 over was a speed trap though, so no getting out of it... besides, I was actually going faster than that!

I got a ticket years ago in a 2004 Frontier truck loaded down with my R6 on the back, and the rear seat full of crap (moving across country) and took alot of stuff with me, and moved the rest..

And I was pulled doing 7 over. and ticketed-- 77 in a 70. I-40 on a very open road, hardly a car in sight.

I'm guessing slow night- and he was bored. lol....

Any officer planting himself within a half mile to a mile of a decreased speed transition zone in order to effectuate a stop and generate a ticket is a dick.

Some police officers take sh*t too far.

And those do not use a beautiful tool bequeathed upon them called DISCRETION. The law IS the law BUT the law (officer) can be discretionary taking in all sorts of factors. Those that do not budge or use the discretion tool are an embarrasment to the badge. Unless that is you are driving like an ass or are a total dick. If you give me every excuse in the book, my BS meter lights up. If you give me the "car doesn't work" chin music, I say get it checked out. If you are a complete dick, and I was cool to you? You better be ready for the cracked windshield, one armed driving, dog in your lap, tail light out and one for the 38 air fresheners, graduation tassle and the Mardi Gras beads hanging from your rear view mirror ticket.

We are no better or different than any other law abiding citizen out there. We should treat everyone that way. The good ones who speed 10 over on the way to work do not write for that infraction, thats hypocracy if they do. Thats why my limit is 20 over. I go with the flow of traffic which usually is 10 over on the E way.

You have to be a complete nutjob (no offense PQ) to get a ticket from an otherwise cool cop. If you are not a nutjob, the cop must be the problem. As I said, too many think they are God. So PQ, he must have run SCMODS and seen your record.

Now I can accept the consequenses of my driving 6 over but damn. 6 over? Really? I thought he could have given me a break. I had the cruise set for that since I didn't think anyone would pull me over for 6 over. Guess it's my bad luck.

Dude comes to the window and the FIRST thing out of his mouth is "What's the hurry, is there a medical emergency?" I should have said "Dude, if there was an emergency, you wouldn't have caught me. Your buddies up the road would have had to". But I just said NO, I'm just cruising with my speed set to 71.

He says, "Well it's 65 mph here so the citation will be speeding".

Yes. I was speeding. Bonnie says "Don't feel so bad. So you got kinda hosed on this one. Just think of all the times you did 20 over and never got caught. You're still ahead"

Damn the irony.
They could tell you are a Dam Okie by Blood lol We only allow you here during 1 weekend a year the rest of the time you're an alien lol

Sorry to hear about the ticket man TX troopers can be A$$HOLES for sure.
Especially on Holiday weekends and to out of town people.

I hate to hear that dude. If it makes you feel any better I drove all the way to Ohio and hit 110 a couple of times but I always seemed to be driving a decent speed whenever I passed a trooper..........and I did pass a few. Passed one going about 80 but I was just going with the flow of traffic. Sometimes it is better to be driving with a bunch of cars going the same speed of just a few over and it is safer to assume you won't be getting a ticket. I usually try to get in the rocking chair and have a front door and a back door when traveling and get with a few cars that move at a rapid pace.

I couldn't agree more! And in my business law class, my teacher stressed that, a law isn't a law unless its enforced! He said he never saw a ticket come in that was under 7 over in my town. And the one that pulled me over in the change, was literally a block away from the sign, AND was hiding behind the parking and transportation building for my school. College town cops, hate college kids, and especially those from the 'city' (Chicago). My RA freshman year is going to be one of the cops I HATE! He was extremely strict, and didn't hardly let anything slide unless he liked you! Luckily he liked me! And I am always polite to cops, saying 'yes sir', 'yes officer' etc. NEVER talk back! But being in Chicago, I can do whatever speed I want, because cops hardly pull people over for speeding, kinda what you said that lady told you 'they have better things to do'. Although they have set up speed traps by my house. Border of IN and IL, they sit there as people have been in IL for a little over a mile, and nail people, but I have gone past them at 10 over and they haven't jumped out. So they probably have your philosophy, driving crazy along with the speed, or just ridiculously excessive speed.

Banshee is completely correct about targeting out of state/province plates.

No tickets yet, I do a strict 5kph over if at all.

oh and by the way

I'M SICK AND TIRED OF BEING TAILGATED BY COPS when I'm doing the speedlimit. Everyone else does it, quit setting the example.

Almost got rear ended last night because the tool was staring at his computer screen when I had to stop to make a right.

Do I have to move the battery and Install 12 gallons of oil there for slick purposes?

I've learned to fear Texas DPS. I travel to Tennessee once a year and every time I get back into Texas I have to slow down. Those guys are serious about pulling you over.

Wish there were more out there like you. I drove all the way from Colorado to Vegas for the Sema show and set the cruise at 9 over. Thinking I would at least get a 10mph slide out there in the boonies. Went well. Can't believe that chick still gave you s*** when you stopped her. Be safe, lots on nutjobs out there.

Hey PQ, if it makes you feel better, my elderly great-aunt got a ticket for going ONE (yes, 1) mph over. The ticket and point loss didn't matter to her since she had nothing else on her record, but the kicker for her was the embarrassment. Here's this sweet little old lady who was in our small town's local paper...for speeding!

Yesterday, I went from surface street to highway, 65mph limit. It was 0 dark-thirty, so not the best visibility with my motorcycle helmet. At the light before I turned, was a motorcycle, that I mistook for a Large Honda couch - Aspencade or something. So, I shot onto the freeway about 90mph, then slowed to my usual 85/86...about 1/4 mile in front of me was another motorcyclist doing about the same speed. Then, a motorcycle cop flies by me! Had to be doing triple digits, pulls in front of me, slows a little, then blows by the other cyclist on his right in the same lane!! No emergency lights on...I had mistook the motorcycle at the light as was VERY grateful he just kept on going!

I deserve a speeding ticket every single day, not for crazy riding/driving, just for going over the limit. Here in CA, if you drive the speed limit on the freeways, you'll get passed 99% of the time by someone doing 15-20 mph faster! I was lucky yesterday!

Sorry to hear about your ticket, that one sucks! :(
