That’s definitely part of it no doubt, but I think there’s much more to it.

They want to run THEIR offenses not one where they have to change what they call due to Jalen’s limitations as a passer.

The offensive line is not what it was (really hope I’m wrong and they were just banged up all year)

AJ Browns status- I don’t think folks know just how important having a bonafide number 1 is. Even when he’s not getting the ball, he keeps Smitty from getting doubled and there will never be 8 in the box when AJ is playing. It took the Eagles 18 years to replace TO.

Fair enough but I disagree about TO with Alshon Jeffery. It is just a scheme.

I think it is more the scheme to the players than the players themselves. Some OC make it work and some cannot. You have a QB1 that is a SB MVP x2, (yeah, the reason he was not 2x is because they lost)

VF is the prime example! Look at what he has done with the defensive players. Not always a hit but he has made a crap load of pros.

The Bills are getting lots of calls from coaches that want to interview.

The Bills recently interviewed Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski

He had a second interview with the Browns on Friday and withdrew his name from consideration on Sunday after the Bills interview.

He said he wanted to concentrate on the Bills job(probably putting his list of coaches together for interview #2)

Yesterday the Bills interviewed Nate Scheelhaase for head coaching position.

I think they are waiting to talk to Gary Kubiak after the SB.

Because two marginal candidates pulled out you think its not a coveted job.

They knew they had zero chance at it.

My guess is Phil wants to coach in the NFL at some level and giving him the meeting opens his eyes to what is expected to move to this level.

Alshon was good, but he wasn’t the force AJ is. Scheme is 100% a big part of it but having good players is more important. I know that because chip kelly showed us what happened after he got rid of our good players. There are a bunch of studs on the defense. I remember VF saying in an interview last year that he did well as the coordinator because he had good players haha. I get he has to say that but just point out that talent and scheme go hand in hand. You need both.

Honestly, of all the candidates they interviewed to this point there really wasn't a better option. At the very least, we know the offense won't change dramatically.
