now i didn't follow your procedure there, but i know my cars and i know to beat in the motor new. if it's not gonna hold together when it's tight, hows it supposed to hold when it's loose? my car now has 1500 miles on it three weeks later and what a ridiculous difference.

Hey Darin i appreciate all the priceless information you have given From a true professional who actually know what hes talking about. i have been breaking in my car very similiar to the way you described and it's awesome. All the things you described are the results I'm seeing. Feeling the car squat down I can really feel this thing coming alive. Wanted to ask you a question. I have a Roto Fab intake and I am concerned about fresh air. the damn washer bottle is blocking all of the extra space in the compartment. ADM has a fresh air scoop but it's a 100 bucks. cant I just remove the washer bottle and open up a hole behingd the lower grill. And what type of difference due you think that this would make

Ok, so my question is, does the break in period last about 170 miles or 500 miles? Also, do you have to drive it hard for the entire break in period? In other words, you can't drive your car normally during this period?

For years I drove fleet vehicles, mostly Chevy suburbans but we had Furd and Dudge in our survey section. I always had to go to Lansing Michigan to pickup my new vehicle as they all were delivered there for the agency to assign. I would bop in to the motor pool, hunt thru the 100's of new 'burban for my new plate number, then turn in my credit card, get the radio transferred and be on my way back to da UP in matter of a few hours. 4 miles on the clock, out of the motor pool, up the ramp on the x-way to merge at over 70mph and north to the Big Mac bridge only dropping below 70mph when traffic conditions called for it, then from the da Big Mac bridge all the way west another 290 miles for a total of over 500 miles in one day on a brand new K2500 burban. Never in 30 yrs did any engine problems occur. My last truck went 125,000 miles in 3+ yrs.
Matter of fact one Furd I brought back once was a F150 4x4 e. cab and it was loaded with survey gear and pulling a 4,000 lbs trailer and when I left there was only 25 miles on the vehicle. That truck was kept for about 6 yrs and 150,000 miles and the engine was in good shape when they sent it to the auction. So all this babying I hear talked about here is just new car jitters and has little basis in reality. We never were allowed to change the oil before 5,000 miles and time did not play into it.

Everyone wants to know how my car runs with all the mods. Well hear it is. I got to play with Cam this week end at the local Drag strip. The wife and I took him out to the Drag Strip and made some runs. The first run with traction control on and going though some slight spin and wheel hop it ran a 12.81 (see ET slip). After that run I took the traction control off and put it into Sport Mode. The tune up has traction control at about 30% on the 1-2 shift and 50% for the rest of the shifts. I did not hold it against the converter for either run as I was afraid to spin the tires and blow the run. With the traction control off and in Sport Mode it ran a 12.66 ET at 110.88. It spun pretty good in first and shook a bit on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. With a set of Drag radials it will go 12.50 at 112mph with no problems at all. I wasted four other runs with spin and shake all the way through first and second even when I tried to pedal it.
![]() Car # 39 and here is the video. My wife was very excited as you will here LOL ![]()

Darin, do you use any of the oil filters that you take apart and clean like the System One stuff?? Do you think its worth running one in a street car?
I'm looking for this oil filter I saw once at a drag race, supposed to be better than a System One but I can't remember what its called for the life of me!!! ![]() Thanks. |
