Thought number 2 (which I had in the bathroom- so it must be deep).
Tradition- the oldest scary stories are allegories meant for children designed to teach a moral. So these outcomes are the results of not following the lessons taught to you in your youth. |

I've always been told, "Children and drunks always speak the truth..." So when I hear a child's voice singing songs about death and things to come, it is like there is no other option. Bad things will happen no matter what course of action you try to take.
Sorry, I'm just a peeon on these matters

There are no peons in these threads. They're meant to spark creativity and get people's thoughts. No right or wrong answers, and no bad ones.

Having kids for most people is a way of them achieving immortality in some fashion (even if they don’t consciously think that), because when they die somebody is there to carry on their family name or their memory. Singing about death, invokes the idea that there is nobody to carry on our legacy or remember us. Also when we as individuals we look on a child we subconsciously think of all the time they have left in their life, and when they are singing a song about death or other related work, we are introduced to this idea that if death can happen to one so young it can happen to anybody and nobody is safe. Combines the flight or fight response with sadness of losing a child, even if we don’t know that individual.
Well that’s my limit of my knowledge on the subject, but then what do I know I am not a psychologist. Like the topic and keep up the questions. Enjoy anything that gets my mind thinking outside of the box.

I was actually thinking something along these lines when I was watching a horror film. When a child sings about death, the framing of the situation always seems to involve complete acceptance of death. This creates a feeling of horror for viewers who internalize the idea of death and feel threatened that an otherwise harmless child is okay with death or killing. People tend to imagine 3 figures in such a situation: the child as a witness, the attacker, and themselves by internalizing the fear. With the child siding with the attacker as accepting the death, this creates the feeling that there is no escape for the viewer, making the circumstance more terrifying.
Obviously, this is just a stream of consciousness and has no scientific backing.
