Could that have been part of the plot, that the dude was teasing/playing with the cops?

You beat me to it. In just about any racing scene in a movie, it seems that way, especially The F&F movies are the worst offenders.

I just remembered another one in the movie Christine when they are at the drive in and Christine locks Arnie out of her so she can kill Leigh. well Leigh while choking pulls up on chrome lock buttons that were pushed down into the LOCK position. but in a shot outside of the car you see that there are NO lock buttons because 58 Plymouths and other 'mopar' cars of that era did not have those style lock buttons. In the DVD commentary they said the close up of the door that locked was from a different year/make model car but it escapes me at the moment.

The newest episode of "Psych" on USA Network.
A mid-late 70's Mercury Cougar does a reverse 180 turn around, causing the right front wheel cover to pop off and roll away. Not hard to miss at all... but in the next scenes all 4 wheel cover are still on the car. Magic!!! Also in the same show, at the end of the same chase scene, the late 80's or early 90's Ford Explorer that was being chased by the Cougar did a standing still rear wheel burn out, even tho I believe the factory Explorer from those years was front wheel drive... making a RWD burnout impossible. I dno if all of this counts as "Film Flubs" but i wanted to get in on this

the ford explorer came out in 90 or 91 and was based on the ford ranger pickup just as the explorer's predecessor the bronco II was also based on the ranger too. so since the explorer is ranger based it was rear or 4wd depending on the model and or trim or year. so it can do burnouts from the rear wheels
. now if it was the car based escape then rear wheel burnouts would be impossible .
