It's called a Challenger, if that is what you saw. It's big just like the old school ones. |

I am speaking generally here, but people who pass opinions off as ground truth are generally fanboys. People who take their personal choice in a car too serioiusly/get defensive are generally fanboys, general close-mindedness to another cars capability or potential is a sign of a fanboy. People who can generate enough emotion to actually "hate" or strongly dislike another car are probably fanboys. Overall I have been impressed with the general conduct of this site with regards to the Mustang and other cars. I like to share my experience of actually driving/racing a Mustang GT for over three years now, and I haven't faced really any hate in return. |

I like the Challenger, BUT;
It is a recycled Mercedes Benz chassis...that's not necessarily a bad thing. The Bean counters are ruining this thing. 4 spd automatic in the SE? WTF? I know they want to keep the costs down but c'mon. The clutch hydraulics are already in production, the six speed manual is already produced in large numbers, and I don't think that the 5 speed automatic costs that much more anyway. I don't know why they didn't just drop the new Ram 1500's 4.7 (that's supposed to make 290-310 hp depending on which magazine you read) and six speed in it. Maybe CAFE concerns? Maybe they're expecting to sell a LOT of the updated Rams next year? (even though fullsize truck sales are down so much that you can get a new V8 F-150 Supercab for less than a Civic) Maybe the new 4.7 doesn't meet emission standards for cars. ![]() IMHO, A 290 hp V8 Challenger under $25,000 would sell in large enough numbers to make it worthwhile. Resurrect the Plymouth name. Give us a Barracuda variant. Hemi 'Cuda....oh, I got goosebumps just uttering that name. GM can resurrect Oldsmobile too although I'm not sure how to make 442 work on the Zeta chassis. 400 hp, 4 passenger, 2 exhausts? Sell it at Buick dealers. 'cause their not selling anything anyway. PISTOL GRIP! Dammit Dodge! you retro-style everything else and then stick a shifter in it that looks like a cross between a Porsche Boxster and a Mitsubishi Eclipse shifter. And the Avenger. Charger Jr. Way to recycle a Hillman name. You don't even offer a manual transmission. What exactly is this car supposed to "avenge" with a slushbox?And while Dodge is at it, they can stop wasting perfectly good SRT/4 engines in that ugly jellybean Caliber body. Maybe an Avenger SRT/4?

The challenger and Camaro are similar in general body shape for the side profile. But the styling details are all different. Also, the camaro weighs "only" 300 lbs less than the challenger. 300 lbs can make a pretty big difference

The SE is getting upgraded in two years when the 4.0 Phoenix engines comes out, don't know about a possible MT, but I heard for a V6 the Pheonix engines is a beast
And as for 2009 the Charger's Hemi's gets a boost: For 2009, the R/T gains the more powerful 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 with 368 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. AWD models now have “active transfer case and front-axle disconnect” for a seamless transition from rear- to all-wheel drive. The rear styling gets a refresh with a new retro taillamp design. SRT8 versions get a tweaked suspension and new ABS and stability-control calibrations. Dodge adds a limited-edition Super Bee “buzz model” in Hemi Orange. A limited-edition Brilliant Black Edition will follow in the spring of 2009. And as for the Seabring/avenger, the redesign models will be here 2012/2013, give Chrysler some time they will get it rigth, and I hope they never deal with Daimler again...........bastards

no one here can dispute the fact no matter how much you like the challenger or not that at 50k it's not worth it. and if I'm labeled a fanboy because of that statement so be it. I've only owned GM products so guess that makes me a fanboy.
