58 Toyota black boxes up, still no throttle electronics glitch

We'll see what comes out of this one...maybe another mysterious unnamed person will tell Autoblog that this is fabricated.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...googlenews_wsj

August 11th 2010 from the preliminary report to Congress:

"Five months into an investigation of safety issues involving Toyota Motor Corp. vehicles, U.S. safety officials have yet to identify any new defects beyond those reported by the car maker itself."

"Experts at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration examined 58 vehicles involved in sudden-acceleration reports and found data in 35 of them showed the brakes weren't applied at the time of the crash. Data from nine other vehicles showed the brakes were used only in the last moment before impact."

"The report doesn't specify driver error as a cause of unintended acceleration, although people familiar with the investigation have said the findings point to pedal misapplication—mistakenly hitting the gas instead of the brakes—as a likely cause."

Yes, it's accurate that there was a floormat issue and a 'sticky pedal' but so far nothing's been found in the electronics. The investigation is ongoing and will take several months to complete...

Either way- are the witches floating or sinking?

toyota still sucks for the way they handled the situation. The reason for the defect is irrelevant at this point...people died because they didn't want to tarnish their false reputation.

Now that NHTSA has finally gotten through the basic causes of UA, now it's on to the hard part. Hopefully the independent panels they hired will know what they're doing.

"At this early point in its investigation, NHTSA officials have drawn no conclusions about additional causes of unintended acceleration in Toyotas beyond the two defects already known," the agency said in its report to members of Congress.

They handled this situation in the worst possible manner. I didn't mind Toyota before this, but now I just hate them.

remember, GM had one model that used the toyota system, toyota had many more

more models= more complaints

GM may have had 5 complaints (not an actual figure) since only the vibe has the unit on it
toyota would have 100 due to the volume of pedals on toyota cars

and who is to say that the black boxes are accurate, they could be wrong

a car puling into a dealer with warped rotors, and at WOT with nobody in the car is a good example
