Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Competition or Fodder?

And they get REDBrembos. Do we get REDBrembos?

Hyundai is a long way from being a legitimate performance brand. I have a lot of respect for this project because it shows that Hyundai wants to join the brawl for top performers in this class. The problem is that Hyundai has an image to change. In this case, the car is ugly, and that image has to change. Otherwise, Hyundai needs to produce some quality advertising that pits the Genesis against other cars in its class—ads with spunk.

I respect all cars to the best of my ability. Hyundai makes fairly reliable economy cars. To make the step into the performance field is admirable. I'm sure someone will say, "Hyundai makes the Tiburon, and it is cool and fast." It's a FWD car that's about as cool as a '90s era Saturn. I'm sure it can perform with help, but I highly doubt that it really floors competitors at the track. If the Genesis is a success, it will really impress people. I hope it does, but I expect Hyundai to do significantly better in the second generation than the first because no performance car goes without its kinks.

Is it competition? I think it will give the Camaro LS a little bit of a run, but I doubt it will really sell like the Camaro because it doesn't have a history or tradition of competition backing it.

dude, its made by hyundai...

it may be the greatest car ever, but in my mind i can not put the words "hyundai" and "cool" in regards to eachother, unless there is a "not" in front of cool...

i like it.

people here are complaining they can't get rid of the camaro-redneck-mullet-stereotype because others keep bringing it up, but on the other hand they won't acknowledge hyundai built a competitive car because "it's a hyundai"

The genesis is a real nice car don't knock it. I have test drove in one and it is as good a ride and comforts as a BMW, Benz or lexus

i don't wanna sound rude, but that's the problem with a lot of people... maybe it's time to re-evaluate? you can't argue with the facts, this IS competition to the Camaro.

Welcome to the future. Hyundai's are also some of the most reliable cars made. I know, it's armageddon. Reliable Hyundai's - go figure.

Chinese are next. First it was Japenese.

Maybe what we need is "change" and learn to embrace it.

I believe that the Genesis V6 Coupe will be a direct competitor to the Camaro V6 Coupe...

In fact it probably will slightly outperform the Camaro V6... I know I'm going to get some crap for that comment but here's why I'm saying this.

It's a 2+2 RWD Sports Coupe (Just like the Camaro)

Comes with a standard 223 horsepower (premium fuel), 210 horsepower (regular fuel) 2.0-liter turbocharged Theta.
An available all aluminum 310 horsepower (premium fuel), 306 horsepower (regular fuel), DOHC 3.8-liter V6 Lambda RS

The V-6 is mated to a six-speed ZF automatic with a 3.4 final drive ratio. A six-speed manual is also available and features a short-stroke shifter (under 41mm), optimized gear ratios and triple cone synchronizers (1st, 2nd and 3rd gears) for smoother shifts.

The Limited Slip Differential features a torque sensor for improved ride and handling under any road conditions. The rear differential transfer case sits atop a three-point mounting system (including a hydraulic bush mounting) for reduced noise and vibration

Mono tube-type shock absorbers have separate gas and oil chambers to enable stable damping force resulting in better ride and road holding performance.

And they said that The V6 is mfr rated at 0-60 in 6.3 seconds, but it's achieved a 0-60 time of 5.9...

Oh and it weighs 3,449 lbs ....almost 300lbs lighter than the Camaro V6...

IS IT GOING TO BE COMPETITION FOR THE V6 CAMARO?

You bet your ass...

I think the price point is going to be the definitive factor. If it comes in around $28-30k, The camaro will be seen as the winner because the relatively equal performance can be had for much less. If it is priced competitively, then props to Hyundai for making a great vehicle.

That being said, I'll have the American please:flag2:

You are right. A "nicely" optioned V6 Genesis Coupe is expected to cost in the 30's which makes it competition for the Camaro SS instead of the V6 Camaro, which we know will kick it's ass all the way back to Seoul....

So in the end the Camaro will win...

The thing that caught my eye though, and the reason I posted the link, is the fact that it has a significantly better power to weight ratio. That and the fact that THEY get RED Brembos.

Everything so far points toThe Camaro having silver Brembo calipers. I know from reading other threads on this site that most of us want RED Brembos.

I realize it appears that Hyundai may be a bit high on there price, and that may cover the cost of RED painted calipers. I'm in now way knocking Hyundai, they have come a long way since they started US sales. I would pay a few dollars more for factory or supplier painted Brembos in the color most of us want. I know there is a lot of speculation on just about every aspect of the Camaro, but does anyone have a legitimate explanation of why no RED at this point? I can already see many new Camaro owners pulling their calipers off and breaking out the spray can. Maybe GM will fix this before the start of production.
