Checked out a 302

Was at a car show held at a local Ford dealer
they had a black on black 2011 GT on display.
What a disapointment , to begin with the 1600
dollar Brembo brake option was only on the front
the rear had one piston Ford calipers, about
eleven inch rotors, the hid headlights cost about 600.00
A four hundred dollar 3:73 gear option
an appearance option[quarter window covers, and quarter
panel air vents] can't remember the cost , but it was exsessive
The paint was terrible or as Charles Barkley
would say terble , the drivers side door had orange
peel worse than any car I ever saw, the passenger side was barely
acceptable
All for 38K
Not really knocking the car itself, I actually liked it
just the quality and costs for options included on
my 2SS/RS SURPRISED ME

Interesting.
All of the Mustangs I've seen lately had good paint.
For $38k they're right in line with what a comparably equipped 2SS/RS goes for.

I wouldn't say comparable. When I looked at some of the specs you have things like the wheels being smaller on the Mustang. I guess it really just depends on what you want out of it. In my eyes it the Camaro is still > then the Mustang. I think this Mustang is just tied people over until the new models arrive in a couple of years because they are being beaten by Camaro sales.

my 2SS/RS SURPRISED ME

1. The RS package on a 2ss is $1200 bucks. How much of that is the HID's? The darker tailights and painted mouldings must cost $20 bucks and the darker painted wheels another $20. That leaves a lot of money for the HID headlights.

2. My paint isn't the best either, but I don't really care. My gas cap and rear bumper are just a c-hair off from the rest of the car. It isn't that noticeable, unless you get right up to it and are looking for it. But, that's the way it came from the factory.

3. Price. My 2SS, auto, polished wheels and sunroof was MSRP for 37,100. Add on the RS package and my car would have been MSRP 38,300. I surely didn't pay MSRP, but that's what my car cost.

$38K?????

Here's a local one for $31,680

http://westherr.com/inventory/new/FO...?countrytabs=0

3.55's, a stick, and candy red paint. Show me a new Camaro that can hang with this car for that kind of money. I'm a loyal GM guy but I will give credit where credit is due and the 5.0 Mustang is going to be king for 2011 and years beyond. It will be faster, quicker, and cost less, period.

Thats about the price I'm paying for my 2011 1SS/RS inferno orange which would still outrun the 2011 mustang if everything is left as stock. In fact, it already has in most of the latest match ups they've had for the 2011's. So its more like "almost as fast, maybe as quick and possibly cost less, dot dot dot." but hey what fun would there be if there was no rivalry. bring it to the track.

if you added the RS package on a 2SS it would come out to around the same price.

The RS package includes the HID's and halos, Midnight Silver rims, painted roof mouldings, darker tail lights and the rear spoiler. I can assure you paint costs are more than $20; ask a wheel or paint shop what it costs to custom paint rims. However I would expect the HID and halos to be a bit more than half that $1,200.

Well, I think you are being nice here. I LOVE the new Camaro's, really I do, but we just had a guy run his bone-stock 2011 5.0 at Empire Dragway and he ripped a bunch of 12.5's on street tires. It was a good-air day. Temp in the low 70's no humidity, the DA was real good. MM+FF ran a 12.34 on drag radials, nothing else changed. Show me a Camaro that can run a 12.34 on the stock tune, with the paper air filter in place. It's power-to-weight and the Ford has the upperhand. It has the same if-not more power and it's pushing less weight. It also has better gearing for the track. The Camaro is outgunned plain and simple.

THE BRAKE PACKAGE STOPS BETTER THAN A CAMARO, IT DOES IT'S JOB. ATLEAST FORD PUTS IT OUT AS AN OPTION. MOST PEOPLE WOULD NEVER TRACK THEIR CAR IN THIS WAY ANYWAYS.

the hid headlights cost about 600.00

VERY REASONABLE.

~$100, VERY REASONABLE.

The taillights are the same price, just darker tint in the plastic.

The weels are finished midnight silver instead of the factory silver so I am assuming they cost the same since the regular wheels are painted too.

The roof mouldings are painted yes, and that is extra.

All SS's have the spoiler, that isn't included on the RS package when you buy a SS.

I am just saying that the RS price on a SS is nearly all HID's. So I think we are agreeing, just maybe not on the amount.
