Hate Austin, TX Traffic

All i can say is FU Austin and ur stupid traffic!!!! I have to replace my front end bumper now! Stop, go, stop, go, stop, go.... thats all it is on I-35. And God forbid that theres already an accident on the road becasue everyone here treats it like its the end of the world and has to stare, which slows down the people behind you for miles, damn idiots! This city's highways and roads were engineered and designd like $h!t becasue every damn quarter mile theres an entrance ramp and exit ramp to the interstate. WTF is that about??? a highways is suppose to have limited access so that speeds can reach 70mph without having to brake and stop every 5 seconds. I swear they might as well have put stop lights on their highways.... oh wait thats right, they do here in ATX. SouthWest Capital HWY 360 has lights on them making u go from 65mph to 0. WTF!!!!!!!!!

It didn't use to be this way. Years ago I35 only backed up downtown at rush hour and Mopac never stoppped unless there was a wreck. Now they are both parking lots most of the time.

Austin was just not built to accomodate this many people. The city was not laid out to grow this big. Now part of it is geographical. We are in the Hill Country, so there are areas you just cannot build roads in. Of course the City Councils absolute refusal to build new roads in a timely fashion is a huge problem. They waste millions on Light Rail, Cap Metro, and bike lanes that no one uses before they figure out they must build new roads. It's maddening.

Just FYI, TxDOT doesn't build for the future.

Standard Procedure for them is to determine the needs for year one. Spend 5 years designing a project to meet the needs for year one. And then spend another 2 to 4 years building said project.

So, what you end up with is a nice new shiny roadway built in year 7, 8, or 9 to meet the needs for year one.

Basically, TxDOT never designed for future projections in the past. I think they're trying to start doing it, but now they're pretty much out of money because all of the other government programs have been syphoning money out of the "road fund" for decades.

Tell me about it CamaroSkooter.

When they voted to move the airport to the old Bergstrom AFB on HWY 71, people here said they better fix the I35/71 intersection before the move was completed since traffic there was going to skyrocket. They did nothing. Then after the airport moved, they figured out they had to fix that intersection. Only now they had to do the all work with alot more traffic in the area.

That place opened in 1999, just last month they started construction on a new flyover there....
